Corporate Watchdog Radio Offers Podcast on Sweeney and Climate Change

by Mike Hall, Apr 2, 2008

Here’s a podcast that probably isn’t downloaded to many executive iPods or streamed on CEO laptops—Corporate Watchdog Radio. The show’s latest installment recaps the recent Investor Summit on Climate Risk held at the United Nations and includes a segment featuring AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and his call to link the fight to stop global warming to social justice and a fair global economy.

Corporate Watchdog Radio is a half-hour weekly radio show and an audio/video podcast designed for financial professionals, corporate social responsibility activists and investors concerned about the social ethics and environmental impact of the corporations in their portfolios.

More than 450 investors and financial and corporate leaders—together controlling more than $20 trillion in investment capital—attended the summit. The conference was sponsored by the U.N. Foundation, Ceres and the U.N. Fund for International Partnerships.

Here are excepts from President Sweeney’s remarks that Corporate Watchdog Radio highlights:

We hear again and again that we must choose between having a stable climate and having a strong global economy. This is a false choice. The global economy cannot prosper unless we secure a stable climate and sustainable sources of energy. Global warming means global depression, food and water shortages and drowned cities. I have stood in New Orleans Ninth Ward and seen the future.
