3. Thanks - Do you listen via Firefox?
I used to be able to get the station with Firefox. But lately I can't. But I could get in with IE. :(

What has he said so far? Any tidbits?

8. It won't load for me in Firefox
But thanks for trying to help.

I have to open IE, go to the site and click on the Listen Live. The it opens fine just like it used to in Firefox. I wish they had alternative streams like being able to open it with Winamp.

Btw - to the topic at hand, the manager is saying that since they're in a large city, AAR does answer their calls and the affiliates may have something to say about all this. I hope her suspension is short and that hopefully she reigns herself in a little. A little bit of compromise on both sides will be good for us listeners.

10. Now that I think about it, i think I had similar problems with
streaming that site on Firefox (some time ago).

I don't suspect Randi will be doing stand-up anytime soon, so I don't think there's much to worry about.

:hi:

5. I'm on Explorer; they've got their own pop-up; I don't know the format.
They're basically letting the listeners check in.

9. Ok if she was not acting as an Employee of AAR
....

One of the callers was right. This is political and yes... proves once again how TOXIC this campaign has become

Thanks for the link...

13. It depends on her contract
From what I've heard over the years, the on air talent have contracts that stipulate that the talent can't say or do things that make the company look bad. Where and how you look bad is a factor decided by the company.

I believe that Randi got carried away. The audience was definitely with her and she was on a roll talking to her peeps. Unfortunately, Mark Green is a Hillary supporter and he holds the trump card.

I think Randi, at worst, deserves a short suspension. Nothing more. Give her a week off the air and then get her back on. I'm sure she's professional enough to understand that radio is not a place where free speech reigns. It's a business. She has to satisfy her bosses at the station. She gets it even if she's unhappy right now. I've heard hosts like Malloy speak to this kind of issue. I beleive that no matter how she feels right now or what she says - Randi gets it.

She's going to call in to Green 960 in a minute. Fingers crossed that she's back on the air soon.

And I know bout contracts.

This is far more gray than people think

And yes I am aware of contract obligations

Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 06:01 PM by eleny
Like I said, she probably just got carried away. And like you said, this is political.

Sounds like she spoke with Green 960s program director and she said she might not be off the air for too much longer. This is good news. But I bet she'll reign herself in at events in the future.

19. Wanna bet she'll move to ANOTHER network
when her contract runs?

Remember, this is the SECOND time they do this with a popular host (Mike Malloy)

Hell, I'd be weary of having an AAR contract right at the moment

25. Remember when she talked about Ed Schultz way back when?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 06:16 PM by eleny
She talked about how they went to meetings with a network and she wouldn't accept a certain deal? Ed accepted the money deal but she wouldn't. It had to do with on-air content. She put Ed down because he accepted the deal. Sounds like when they both went to talk to Jones network but I'm not sure.

I can't recall all the details now. It was some time ago that she talked about it on her program.

Anyhow, the options could be limited. I hope whatever happens now, it works out to reasonable satisfaction for all sides.

26. True and you remember correctly
but the reality is, if I were an AAR host, given the pattern that has emerged, I'd be calling my lawyer and MY agent right about now.

Yep, I'd be looking for ANOTHER network and FAST

20. Last Tuesday Randi said she was moving back to Fl.
I think this has been in the works for awhile. It was good to hear that affiliates are working together on something... John Scott implied she would be back soon.

that the San Francisco AAR affiliate has had it in for Randi for a very long time. i personally couldn't believe it when they actually put her back in any kind of time slot where there would be, um, listeners. they are big for Ed Schultz, if that helps place things into proper perspective. to me, it was only a matter of time before they would find a, some, any, reason to take Randi completely off the air around these parts.

i'm an unabashed Randi fan, and have complained loud and long to the SF AAR affiliate about how and when Randi's show has been scheduled in the past. i was THRILLED to have her back in a time slot when sentient local humans are actually listening.

i'm also an unabashed non-supporter of Senator Clinton's candidacy, and i LIKE hearing Randi tell it how it is, at least in her, my, and many other people's world view. i personally think that Senator Clinton seems like she will say or do ANYTHING to WIN. it sounds to me like what Randi said was an earthy Noo Yawk girl's commentary on this particular character trait.

nobody was boo-hooing when Randi called Ann Coulter a "hoo-ah". (NB: i am not comparing Senator Clinton to Ms. Coulter; i am illustrating Randi's type of earthy Noo Yawk girl commentary style.)

Randi has been more than generous in her personal opinion of Senator Clinton as an individual. she has said over and over again that she does not like having to be in this position, because from her previous contact with Senator Clinton, she genuinely likes her.

i think this is a takedown of one of my favorite progressive radio voices, occurring in a market where they fought tooth and nail to NOT broadcast Randi in a time slot when people are actually listening.

if this offends anyone, i apologize for my passion on this topic. but knowing what the SF affiliate's management really thinks about Randi Rhodes, i think this suspension stinks to high heaven. it was a private affair, with a small group, for cripes sake, not on air.

and anyone who thinks that Randi really got so pie-eyed that she "fell" and "hurt herself" so badly some time back, might think of that incident in light of today's developments.

flame away if you must, but i'm a Randi fan and will remain so.

24. Hate to point this out but the suspension is NATIONAL
and came from the New York AAR honchos

In fact, if you listened to the station... The Program Director was actually DEFENDING Randi and explaining what went down

29. Whether they were friendly to her or not is besides the point
it wasn't the local station that did this

And quite brutally honest a PATTERN is starting to emerge from AAR national...

First Malloy... ok shit happens...

If you bet me drift of course

But at least I know that we'd better stick to facts here.

It wasn't the San Fran Station that did this... even if they have been less than friendly to her

31. While that may have been true in the past
It is not the case now.

Green960 has new management. John Scott, the new Program Director, used to be on in afternoon drive moved his show & brought Randi back to drive-time. And yes, he moved it to mornings thus resulting in an enormous response to bring Stephanie Miller back. So he dropped his show and brought her back. They're trying to make the format work & know that it can... no matter how much Air America messes it up...
