I am just a bit over 50, a lifelong Democrat (a New England Dem at that). I have my favorite candidate but won't share it - but it is NOT McCain. I cannot believe what has happened to our country - and those parts of the world touched by our so-called leadership - since Bush was given the office of presidency.
But I don't want to go into detail. What struck me today is that we are now under leadership that is just rotten with incompetence, greed and a stunning absence of accountability, responsibility, oversight - and most importantly, any sense of heart and feeling. From the financial disasters to environmental and other regulatory agencies to the lack of caring for our own citizens, to the incredible damage - murder! - being done on our behalf to innocent Iraqis - and our own troops, of course. Sometimes I wonder if we have gone down a path that there is no escape from, and that this is just an endless spiral.
So yes, we are Dems, we are supposed to disagree, we pick statements apart. Sure, it is all part of the process. But, folks, we are in a heap of trouble and a heap of hurt. I just hope that people are not so stuck into the fake world of American Idol or Big Brother or Survivor - or any other pile of endless shit that the TV shovels at people daily - and we all can just take a huge step back, see the big picture, and realize what we MUST do this coming election. If McCain somehow ends up as our next president, God help us all, because although it doesn't seem possible, things can indeed get much, much worse.
