Obama vows to make AL GORE his anti-global warming czar ---
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 12:10 AM by defendandprotect
Obama says he'd give Al Gore "a major role in an Obama adminsitration to address the problem of Global Warming . . .

From my Star Ledger today ---

EDITED -- after five replies ---

Here's what he said . . .

At a town hall meeting, Obama was asked if he would tap the former VP for his Cabinet to handle GW . . .

"I would," Obama Said. "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table an play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. It is something we have to deal with now, not 10 years from now, not 20 years from now."

5. I believe that Hillary answered that she would also be glad to have Gore in her cabinet.....
When she was asked.

Do you know if Obama was asked, since you seem to want to simply call him name dropper?

14. Actually, the report also stresses the STRAINED relationship between Gore + Clintons . . .
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 12:11 AM by defendandprotect
since Gore shunned having Clinton campaign for him in 2000 ---

16. This isn't mere name-dropping.
He's trying to gloss over Gore's neutrality by intimating that HE, OBAMA, is in control of the situation. That it's HIS choice whether Gore is in his cabinet.

Damned condescending. But, of course, you never notice little things like that.

8. He was specifically asked if he would put Gore in his cabinet
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 11:31 PM by walldude
and where. He answered and it made the news. I believe you are being a bit quick to judge. To put it nicely ;)

edit: linky...

At a town-hall meeting, Obama was asked if he would tap the former vice president for his Cabinet to handle global warming.

"I would," Obama said. "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. 9. No actually I posted to this one of the first thousand times it was posted
but it all comes down to the point that obama was name-dropping Gore's name.
That is really all it is in a nutshell.

Still, I find it hard to believe you can find fault with what he said or with the fact that was specifically asked about Gore. What was he supposed to do? Ignore the question? C'mon it's been 8 years since we had a president that didn't snicker when he said "global warming" both Hillary and Obama would change that, finally.

10. Has Al Gore said he wanted a position
on either candidates staff if they are elected? I think Gore can do more out on his own than under the direction of Clinton or Obama and being appointed puts a person under their direction.

11. yeah but wouldn't it be great not to have the EPA run by psychopaths
who are trying to get us all poisoned? Either Clinton OR Obama would appoint someone with half a brain at least.

17. Actually,
he could do a whole lot more if HE were President. And that's what we might (happily) end up with if the convention is deadlocked and the Party has to turn to someone who can easily win in November and is not all bloodied up from all this primary fighting. Just imagine Presidential nominee Gore asking Obama to be his VP, with Edwards as Attorney General and Hillary promised the first open seat on the Supreme Court, and Bill Richardson as Sec. of Energy and Joe Biden as Sec. of State, etc. Of course we'd have to replace some Dem. Senators to keep the Senate in Dem. hands, but for those I mentioned, it should be easy to elect Dems. to fill the spots. Hit the link in my signature line to go to the Yahoo group that is organizing in case we need to help the super delegates find a way out of the mess the Party is headed for at the moment.

13. In politics, that's called stealing an endorsement.
If you can't get someone to endorse you, claim you would hire them, and most people will forget they haven't endorsed you. And Gore can hardly say "Wait, I never said I'd work for you," without looking like he's endorsing the other candidate.

It can always backfire. Gore could endorse Clinton, and Obama would look weaker. But he probably knows Gore won't jump in like that.

Standard politics. Pretty smart, mostly. A little greasy, but so is everything else in politics. It's kind of like being on a dance floor and dancing near someone to make it look like they're dancing with you.

Myself, I'm announcing Monday that Al Gore will be my new pool guy.

...And dig my pool, for that matter. In a carbon-neutral way, of course. :D
