Randi Rhodes and ratings
One thing to keep in mind my friends...this whole Randi Rhodes thing could be a big stunt. The Arbitron ratings are conducted 4 times per year. Each ratings survey is twelve weeks. The new survey (the Spring survey) began yesterday (Thursday.) This could very well be a stunt for ratings and attention.

1. I doubt it.
AAR has been moving towards "safe" and conservative for some time now. I think Hartman's geniality is the only thing standing between his very progressive show and the AAR Conservative Meat Ax.

4. Corporate ownership tends to move media toward "safe."
I don't listen as often as I used to, but it seems to me that AAR is moving that way.

2. You mean they're counting the ratings while Sam Seder is sitting-in for Randi?

How awesome is THAT!?!!

Go, Sam, Go!

Sorry, but this is NOT how I wanted Sam to get his show back.

3. Well Air America lost me at the very beginning because of Randi
I doubt I will start listening again even though she is gone from there. I just don't like people that make a living by belittling other people, and Randi was as good or better than Rush at that..

10. So, you support fascism and the Thought Police? You're against Free Speech too?
:wow:

Why do you hang around a progressive Democratic messageboard?

14. I honestly don't think there would be an Air America
w/out Randi Rhodes. I remember the days when you had to search out the random liberal shows on the internet; Mike Malloy and Randi were the biggies. Then Air America came together with Randi as the Star and we were introduced to the newbies: Sam Seder, Rachel Maddow, Al Franken. I love them all, some more than others, but I don't think they would have pulled it togehter w/out Randi.

I am thankful to her for joining with the other talent. She can be caustic and rude but nobody comes close in connecting the dots and promoting progressive ideas.

5. I Must Have Missed It
I knew about the suspension and the reason behind it but I didn't know that it was an Obama event although it wasn't specifically linked to the campaign. I wanted to make that clear because if people saw the link and didn't read that it was sponsored by a 967 (?) his campaign would be accused of something it didn't organize. I hardly think Obama knew about her tirade against Clinton.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4r2cc

It's too bad that another supporter of one of the candidates has said something they should not have. It should not reflect on the campaign either. I haven't been listening to anything on the MSM so I don't know if they are having a field day with it or not.

Whether Rhodes meant to offend women or not she did and yes, I know not all women were offended. I wish people would start their brains before opening their mouths. If you are correct and it was a publicity stunt, Rhodes may have paid a high price.

8. It's under new management now, a new co-owner.

And it's all about money and keeping it afloat.

I read that the NYC affiliate dropped AAR last week.

That can't be good.

12. They have been going down for awhile
I guess in the end its one of the only things Bill O liely will have ever been right about. I stopped listening a long time ago, when they moved to 1600 on the am dial here near NYC. After that the reception was so terrible you could hardly hear the station.

13. O'Reilly's already been wrong many times over as AAR has lasted much longer than he predicted ...
... but let's not forget the massive corporate subsidies received by media entities such as Fox News and the Washington Times before belittling AAR's more tenuous survival.

Eventually AAR *will* close its doors, but that doesn't make O'Reilly right. The network's been around at least 4 years longer than he predicted.

17. Sorry, she went over the line when she used the word "whore"
just like that idiot who referred to the Clintons "pimping Chelsea" on the campaign trail.

She said something stupid, and she has to pay. The guy who referred to Chelsea as a whore was also suspended temporarily... what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I think what Geraldine Ferraro said was disgusting, but Randi crossed the line too. She didn't have to bring it down to the gutter level. Maybe she's trying to get out of her contract, or something. Air America really is fundamentally screwed up as a business model, so I wouldn't be surpised.
