4. Did you know him personally? |
|
Do you know why he re-enlisted knowing that his unit was going to Iraq? I've never been able to understand that.

:wtf: edit: In ANY case, he died in vain...for nothing. A complete waste of a perfectly good life. Some of us wonder why it happened so easily.

12. It's an insensitive question because it implies he deserved to die for... |
|
putting himself in harm's way. You may not have meant it that way, but that's what the question smacks of.

13. Holy shit. I think dying for Bush's "war" is the foulest thing in US history! |
|
But (unless I have been grossly misinformed) he did re-up...isn't that true? Why the HELL didn't people who mattered to him STOP that?

14. To know the mind of a soldier is to understand the bond between brothers-in-arms... |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 07:20 PM by Cooley Hurd
To NOT re-enlist would be to turn his back on his buddies. NONE OF THEM asked for this shitty conflict, but ALL OF THEM would defend each other to the end.
It's as simple as that.

17. Mea Culpa. I was in the Air Force. That kind of bond didn't exist (does it now?) |
|
I think all that "never leave a comrade behind" is mostly crap, drilled into grunts in boot camp and doesn't really work very well in real life. Seems to me Bush 41 and McCain lost it somewhere along the way.

Truly, unless you understand the psychology of a military unit, it really is hard to understand. |
|
To many of us it really is puzzling why someone would deliberately place themselves in harm's way. Unfortunately, to verbalize the question is usually interpreted in a negative way even when it isn't intended. Sticky wicket.

19. Putting oneself in harm's way for good reason isn't at all hard to understand. |
|
I worked as a cop to get through college and then I volunteered in the military (To be brutally honest, the ANG, same as Dubya did and for the same reasons...to stay out of Viet Nam) Sticky wicket, indeed. ;-)

You might disagree with me (and vice-versa) but you won't see me vacillating on the issues to be acceptable. I'll come down just as hard on a Democrat hypocrite as on a Repug one. Bet on it. :D

Hey, we're trying to not let you or the folks that died in the Revolutionary War, or the Civil War, or the World Wars to have died in vain.
Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan is well....you went where you were ordered to go. And we respect you for honoring your committment. I'll leave it at that.
RIP Casey (and you've got a 'very cool/committed' mother there! :-) )
