IMPEACH! I want the Constitution back!
Constitutional lawyer: Bush 'ordered war crimes'Nick Juliano
Published: Friday April 4, 2008

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Turley_Yoo_memo_evidence_of_Bush_0404.html

This week's revelation of another secret Bush administration memo that seemed to eliminate any boundaries on the treatment of detainees added to the already substantial evidence that US military and intelligence interrogators have abused and perhaps even tortured prisoners rounded up during the "war on terror."

Former Justice Department lawyer John Yoo wrote in 2003 that Bush's seemingly supreme authority in wartime trumped federal laws "prohibiting assault, maiming and other crimes," as the Washington Post reported. For constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley, the latest memo should be more than enough reason for Congress to begin some serious investigations, but hesitance to really dig into Bush-authorized "war crimes" have precluded them from doing so, he says.

"It is really amazing because Congress -- including the Democrats -- have avoided any type of investigation into torture because they do not want to deal with the fact that the president ordered war crimes," Turley told MSNBC's Keith Olbermann Thursday night. "But evidence keeps on coming out.... What you get from this is this was a premeditated and carefully orchestrated torture program. Not torture, but a torture program."

6. No, I have plenty of energy, thank you, as does the future Democratic Justice Department, so STFU
"Ain't gonna happen" is nothing but an cop-out phrase, and I am sick of hearing it. You're telling us you don't mind our laws and Constitution and pre-Iraq reputation being broken in half. Fine. You are entitled to your indifference. But please STFU instead of trying to calm the rest of us with your blanket of complacency.

15. the problem is that condoning through...
inaction shifts the responsibility for these crimes from the Administration to the United States Government. As well it should. I would think that some kind of prosecution would be demanded purely from a public relations view. When I think about what Chalmers Johnson wrote in 2000, it takes my breath away.

excerpted from the book
Blowback The Costs and Consequences of American Empire
by Chalmers Johnson
Henry Holt, 2000
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blowback_CJohnson/Blowback_BCJ.html
"Blowback" is shorthand for saying that a nation reaps what it sows, even if it does not fully know or understand what it has sown. Given its wealth and power, the United States will be a prime recipient in the foreseeable future of all of the more expectable forms of blowback, particularly terrorist attacks against Americans in and out of the armed forces anywhere on earth, including within the United States. But it is blowback in its larger aspect-the tangible costs of empire-that truly threatens it. Empires are costly operations, and they become more costly by the year. The hollowing out of American industry, for instance, is a form of blowback-an unintended negative consequence of American policy- even though it is seldom recognized as such. The growth of militarism in a once democratic society is another example of blowback. Empire is the problem. Even though the United States has a strong sense of invulnerability and substantial military and economic tools to make such a feeling credible, the fact of its imperial pretensions means that a crisis is inevitable. More imperialist projects simply generate more blowback. If we do not begin to solve problems in more prudent and modest ways, blowback will only become more intense.

3. Impeachment is not an option. Impeachment is an imperative
if we are ever to again live under the rule of LAW.

12. We can't lose focus and just forget about what these criminals have
done, we got to shine the light on these cockroaches and make them pay a huge price. If not they'll just disappear for a while, find away to get back into power and we'll be going through the same shit in a few years. I will never be fully proud of this country again until the Nazi-like Neocons, including their allies in the media, are rounded up and put on trial for their international and domestic crimes.
