Native Americans walking across the US right now
I hope this can be kicked enough for greatest page. I wish they would show this on Cspan or CNN
but I did find on the Longest Walk site, a link to listen on "earthcycles" and see some pictures.

Maybe Michael Moore will put it on his page and it might get some National Coverage. I hope someone is making a documentary of it.

It is called the Longest Walk II. It is more than Native Americans, it is other Americans and people from around the world that are joining them. They are doing two routes both north and south. I can't imagine all the planning and logistics that goes into this.
I also enjoyed reading their stories, seeing the picturess and some of the press coverage.

I did donate, cause I'm sure they need the money and would make good use of it. and I got one of their cool shirts.

The Longest Walk 2008
February, 11 - July 11, 2008
4,400 miles
OUR MISSION:

We walk with the message: All Life is Sacred, Save Mother Earth.

We shall walk for the Seventh Generation, for our youth, for peace, for justice, for healing of Mother Earth, for the healing of our people suffering from diabetes, heart conditions, alcoholism, drug addiction, and other diseases.

Through the elements of the seasons, we shall walk through the rain, snow, over mountains, high winds, through the heat and cold, nothing shall deter us from completing our mission: All Life is Sacred, Protect Sacred Sites.

Let those who doubt, hear our pledge. Let those who believe, join our ranks. As we walk the final miles, by our side will be elders, families, children, people of all races, from many walks of life, the old and the new America. All Life is Sacred, Clean Up Mother Earth.

1. Happily just gave you your 5th rec.
The national dialogue has been really interesting of late.

Starting with the thunderous introduction of Reverend Wright's thunderous call to consciousness of our national malaise and gross inequities which are part and parcel of our history, moving to our somber memory of MLK's passing, and now this.

I've posted these links before but perhaps you've not seen them as yet.

3. Imagine America 14,000 years ago, when they were already walking across America.
And think about how much impact on the land you see from the last century compared to 14,000 years of honoring the Earth!

7. I'm going to donate when Hubby gets paid on Tuesday.
This is a good, good thing, and it sounds like the northern route really needs help (not that the southern route doesn't, but the northern one just got through the mountains in the winter, which surely cost them a lot).

22. When you reply to a post it "kicks" it to the top of its directory page.
When you hit the "recommend" button on the bottom line of the original post (OP) it adds to the post's recoomends, which moves it up the "greatest page" list and may display it on the homepage of DU. Click on the "Help" button on the top for more answers.

And welcome to DU!

If lets a person know that there is no message beyond the title and the reply need not be clicked on to read.

10. For those who don't know, the phrase "for the Seventh Generation"
Refers to a belief common among First Nation Peoples belief that, when making a major decision, you should ponder how that decision will affect the NEXT seven generations to come.

It would be a good practice for non-First Nations Peoples and nations to adopt as well, IMHO.

27. Thanks for that info, smart way to do things if you ask me...
Can't believe the logistics of planning not one, but two lines of earth saving people walking across the country. I hope the group that arrives in DC is so huge they cannot be ignored.

I'd love to join one of the walks, if only I could. But I will donate to them instead. I do hope this gets some publicity. It's good to see that this post and its message has risen so high on DU's Greatest page. :)
