NBC: Secretive DC prayer group has worldwide reach

Who is Douglas Coe?

"The most important religious leader you've never seen or heard," says NBC's Andrea Mitchell.

Coe, leader of a group called The Fellowship, is a powerful, secretive and well-connected religious leader, widely known among senators across the aisles, and across faiths; but not by the general public. Coe's services have been attended by all three of the major 2008 presidential hopefuls: Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Barack Obama (D-IL).

The Fellowship appears to be as much of a networking opportunity as it is a religious group, says Joshua Green, senior editor of The Atlantic Monthly.

1. Please don't tell me Barack is mixed up in this group too!
Can we please, please, please for once have a leader who isn't a member of some secret treehouse club with decoder rings and secret chants and crap?

What IS it with secretive clubs and cults anyway? What are people, 10 years old? Grow up!

4. Fine. As long as they're Angry Black Men out in the open.
No more creepy secret power cults!

14. let me see... angry black man club won't impose a fascist theocratic
dictatorship on the world last time I looked. Can't say this gal won't. Obviously, being in a fascist, self segregating secret theocratic cult is not as scary as a black man decrying the evil he personally faced in his life.

16. Uh, Barack Obama actually attended these meetings with Coe also
This is yet another power-club run by the uber-elite, unfortunately overlayed with more religious veneer than most.

Despicable.

17. they sponsor prayer breakfasts. I doubt he did the sleepovers that she
has done. Altogether, I loathe any participation with these people but attending a prayer breakfast with friends is different.. Can anyone tell me he slept over in their wacko prayer place? I am open to correction on this issue.

19. You're joking right?
Whitewash it if you will, but color me skeptical that anyone, especially Obama, thought any of this - prayer breakfasts, prayer meetings, prayer sleep-overs - is about getting right with the lord. Anyone attending these are going for the secret handshake, the insider lines, and the firming up of snaky deals whether they "sleep-over" or not imho.

These are insider meetings disguised as worship fests and open only to a select few of the chosen.

That Hillary opted for sleep-overs vs just attending the "prayer breakfast" (cough) means little to me. She probably needs this avenue for deal making as she doesn't play golf and needs other arenas for networking. This one provides great cover for the uber-elite as it gives them the veneer of being religious AND allowing them a semi-secret activity to collude in more nefariousness in plain sight.

Sounds like something out of Eyes Wide Shut.
And, oh god, I just imagined Hillary there.
Ouch. I need to go wash my mind.

18. Dammit, cannot find the link I have that shows a close link between
Coe and Moon, re: 'The Family'.

Moon is more of a danger than most imagine, but add in Coe and it's worse.

Thanks Babs! :hi:

21. I've got some comp. organizing to do soon, hopefully it turns up,
may have misfiled it. If you can pm me yet please do so, if I find it will pass it on and it will also help me remember to look. I have files on my old crashed hard=drive about *Jr and his Poppy that would curl your hair.

Amazing the things you find online that later completely disappear. What bothers me most is knowing you've read something in a book years ago, and then not remembering the title to prove it now in the internet age. :)

Welcome to DU, chiggerbit! :hi:
