Gallup asks Republicans to pick McCain VP: 18% want Huckabee, 15% Romney, 6% Condi
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new Gallup poll shows no clear favorite among Republican voters as to which of several elected officials or others John McCain should choose as his running mate. Mike Huckabee tops the list of GOP hopefuls McCain beat and other top choices suggested as a potential vice-president but he doesn't reach the 20 percent mark.

In an open-ended question, Gallup found 18 percent of Republicans favor Huckabee as McCain's number two while another 15 percent want his fellow ex-governor Mitt Romney.

Condoleeza Rice, the only person who did not run for the Republican nomination to make the top six pulled in eight percent.

Fred Thompson received the support of four percent while two percent backed Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman. Colin Powell, John Edwards, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich and Bill Richardson rounded out the list with one percent each.

CNN.com Election 2004

obama took my county by 19% and kerry lost by the same amount...this is ground zero of the cult of st ronald of reagan

so did the republicans vote for obama and not vote for kerry? will the republicans not vote for john but vote for obams? or will they not vote for either candidate?

5. Alan Keyes was running as the Republican Candidate
also, people are more likely to cross party lines if it's to vote for someone of your own state.

but in general, i think Obama will do better than Kerry among Republican voters.

6. there was a huge split in the republican party during that election
there will always be those who will vote solid party but because of the split i think they went to obama. if john is`t well liked he`s going to lose the moderates in the republican party . a lot depends on who john picks or who is selected for him...

8. Yes, and even most Repubs were ticked off that Keyes was a carpetbagger
besides being the wiggiest wingnut to ever parachute into the state. He had trouble getting more than a few dozen people to appearances in hardcore Republican counties downstate.

9. He could always ask Dick Cheney
Then he could go play golf on his wife's estate in Sedona, and keep the status quo.
Unless Cheney sees a few indictments coming, and already has plans to retire to
Dubai or Halliburton's (his) place in Kish.
