Say "Goodbye Moses" = RIP: Charlton Heston
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 11:17 PM by L. Coyote
Caught a banner on CBS. Now to choose the appropriate words.

A wise politician once told me,
"Don't worry that old voters won't change, they will die."

Pry that out of my hands!

LOL on edit. It's RIP, not RSVP LOL
No need to reply ... LOL

"I doubt that Michael Moore would have done an interview under those circumstances ---

But he hasn't exactly been as much of a truth-teller as he makes himself to be. I don't think he's above framing a scene to make his interviewee look foolish.

Like when he sprang up on Dick Clark in that same movie. What's up with that? How could Dick Clark have left that scene without looking like a complete heartless bastard? Moore didn't ask for an interview, accosted him when he was in the middle of something... that scene was a total-set up.

That wants unfettered access to guns so we have more shootings, death and destruction. The NRA is NOT a civil rights organization. They are lobbyists for the gun industry.

70. He was a civil rights activist prior to his NRA work
As to the idea that the 2nd Amendment is not a civil right, I think it being included in the Bill of Rights might be a clue as to whether it is or not.

And the NRA gets a vast majority of its money from its members and their donations. The entire firearms industry is ~1/6th the size of McDonalds alone, so calling them a huge lobby is a bit misleading. There are lobbyists in DC for the firearms industry (Ruger and S&W have quite a few), but the NRA isn't one of them.

I don't hold any animus toward Charlton Heston. I thought he was kind of a cheesy actor -- but in a good, fun way.

And his NRA thing -- so late in his life when it seemed clear that he was already exhibiting symptons of Alzheimers -- didn't make me think he was some kind of embodiment of evil. He was actually a civil rights activist in the 60s.

I think hurling obscenities at a dead person is really quite ugly and vulgar.

58. No I haven't. I've been here for 7 years, I've seen plenty of grave pissing & grave dancing.
I find much of it unseemly and unworthy of so-called "liberals". For certain departed persons who committed particularly heinous acts in life such as mass-murder (Reagan) or destruction of our Constitution (Rehnquist, Falwell), a certain amount of satisfaction at their demise is not unwarranted.

But to indulge in base maliciousness toward someone who wielded no great power over the lives of others seems just plain crude and ugly to me.

Charlton Heston may have become a wrongheaded fool in his later years, but he was not an inherently evil person. I'm old enough to remember when he championed ML King and the civil rights movement in the 60s. I don't think he deserves the spitefulness expressed in this thread.

YMMV

45. The thing about Heston
is that he used to be a HUGE liberal. I mean, Reagan was originally a Democrat too, but Heston was like, a full-tilt, all-out liberal. Anti-war, pro-gun control, marched with civil rights leaders, you name it. It's just that like so many of Hollywood's old guard, at some point in the '70s/'80s he turned into a conservative wacko.

As far as I'm concerned, I like to put politics aside when it comes to Charlton Heston, and enjoy the things that really matter:
