I will never make a good politician.
I just realized this.

I am too damn liberal for anyone to vote for me. I'm a queer, anti-racist pagan, sex-positive feminist. I'm pro-disabillity rights, pro-neurodiversity, I support the decriminalization of prostitution, think teenage sexuality isn't entirely negative, support the rights of transgender people, support inclusive, comprehensive, sex-positive sex education, and, quite frankly, think that anything that consenting adults do sexually is actually fine by me.

If I were a politician, and I publicized these things, nobody would vote for me? But why?

Why can't a politician stand up and say "I'm Pagan" or "I'm polyamorous" (I'm not, for the record, but I'm not bothered if people are) or "I support the decriminalization of prostitution" or "teenage sexuality isn't all bad"? Why? Are we so obsessed with being good clean family values types that we forget to actually use logic?

I realize that I'm mostly preaching to the converted here... but it kind of pisses me off that my opinions are considered so shocking and scandalous.

2. You can certainly do it at a local level, with a like minded constituency.
At a national level one must be the least offensive to the greatest number of people to have a chance of getting elected.

5. At least you're aware of your feelings on
a lot of subjects and that's a great start. Most young people are busy with their own lives to give much thought to politics. So I say go for when the time comes it if you feel you can be a positive force locally and see where it goes from there.

6. You just need to fool them to get elected

Tell them you are a centrist, take all the corporate donations and then once elected come out of the closet

We need to start using their tactics against them.

None of the bastards in Congress right now make good politicians...
Hey what state are you in? There still might be time to run for congress

7. I'm 16 years old and I'm Canadian.
I might run for something on the local level when I'm older, though.
