I've got a few campaign donation bucks and no place to spend them. Help Spend Stinky's Money
I am disinclined to make any donation at the presidential level until we get a candidate. Neither is my choice ..... or second or third or fourth or ..... you get the idea.

My congressman is the very safe Elijah Cummings. No Senate seats in my state this year. No local races of any import.

So ...... who's out there, making a run for a particularly important seat .... or to upset a ***real*** asshat? I was inspired by this thread from eleny: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3119450

The only 'foreign' seat on my own radar is NY29 where Eric Massa continues to do battle with Randy Kuhl. Eric came *thiiiiis* close to beating him last time.

So ..... Help Stinky Spend his Money. What races ought I know about?

1. Not a race, but a very worthwhile cause
to support one of our Dems who DID THE RIGHT THING. Jim McDermott of Washington State. Here's the scoop:

Welcome

Welcome to my Legal Expense Trust Web site, created under authority of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.

My legal battle with Rep. John Boehner (R–OH) began nearly nine years ago when I was handed a tape recording of then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his leadership team plotting to evade the no-spin provision of a plea agreement with the House Ethics Committee. I gave members of the press access to that recording. They in turn published portions of the plot in their newspapers, and the story generated extensive public interest.

The Republicans responded with a lawsuit against me.

A July 1998 summary dismissal should have ended the matter. So should the 2001 U.S. Supreme Court rejection of a similar claim. Instead, the suit has now spawned a judgment that threatens the free speech rights of every whistleblower, reporter, publisher, blogger, and concerned citizen in America. In response to this potential threat to their ability to aggressively pursue stories of national interest, almost every major media outlet in the country has announced its support for my defense of the First Amendment.

By contributing to my Legal Expense Trust, you can help give me the means to defend our First Amendment rights before the courts. Your support also sends a strong message: We must preserve the people's right to know what their government and elected representatives are doing.

And if you're so inclined, here's the link:

I'm not sure if any of the orgs you cite would funnel funds his way. He doesn't have the soliciting power that those you mention do.

2. Help me out here Stinky
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 03:09 PM by AZDemDist6
I had a $2000 car repair bill and $300 for TV repair so I wasn't able to support this wonderful candidate here in my home district

http://www.billmccamley.com/

and his dKos diary

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/27/161837/735/573/485571

His 30th birthday was April 1st and he was asking for $30 for 30 years as a fundraiser. It broke my heart I couldn't send it to him

edit to add, he's running for the Open Seat vacated by the idiot Steve Pearce who is running against Heather Wilson for the repuke nomination for Domenici's old seat.

if things all go right, the NM Congressional delegation could move from 3(R) and 2 (D) to 5(D) and no Rs!!!!

from his Kos diary

Without going into too much detail, the primary is now a two-man race. Our campaign is in front right now. We won the Pre-Primary Nominating Convention with 49% of the delegates in a four-way race, so we're on top of the primary ballot. We just got poll numbers back showing that we are winning two to one (43 to 22) right now. By any measure (website traffic, volunteer sign-ups, fundraising, etc.), things are taking off.

Of course, there are some major challenges ahead. Our remaining primary opponent, Harry Teague, made millions in the oilfield services industry. He's already given his campaign $200,000, and he's hinted he's willing to give more to pay for lots of TV ads. While we won't be able to go dollar-for-dollar against him, we've raised more money than any other Democrat in this district ever has in a primary (over $300,000).

I encourage you to go to our websites and compare us. Watch our videos, read about who we are, and find out what we stand for. I got in this race a year ago against Steve Pearce, because he was a rubber-stamp for the Bush administration, because he was wrong on the issues, and because he was not getting results for the district, especially rural communities and middle class families. I would hope that my getting in against Pearce demonstrates my commitment to fight for what I believe in.

One final word before I begin taking your questions. I turn 30 on Tuesday (yes, on April Fool's Day--it's not a joke!), and I'm asking those people who think that we need a new generation of leaders standing up in Congress to contribute $30 before then to help out with our efforts. I would really appreciate your help!

7. Support Nancy Pelosi's primary challenger! We need the help!
I met her on Friday and she's so cool. Very down to Earth except for the part where she's running against the Speaker. But, with Petraeus about to take us into Iran, and seeing as how we BEGGED Nancy not to trust this guy last summer, I'm mad as hell and have decided to switch back my reg to the Democrats and do everything I can to make this a real challenge.

8. Diane Benson running for Don Young's seat
again this year. Unlike 2006, she's facing some serious competition in the Democratic primary, but I still think she's the best candidate to go against whichever Republican remains standing. (Young is toast. I don't think he'll make it past the primary.)

Anyway, here's a link to Diane's website. http://www.bensonforcongress.com/

She is an inspiring human being, mother of a paraplegic Iraq vet who lost both his legs while stop-lossed, completely dedicated to progressive ideals. I never leave her presence without feeling hopeful.

27. YES!! She's inspired many in NYC.
I was one of many who co-hosted a fundraiser for Diane Benson, and people were just blown away with enthusiasm and gave offers to do more. She brings a different perspectibe and wisdom to our policies as a Native American and working class heroine. A woman of grace and grit.

She's endorsed by Max Cleland, Bill Richardson, and featured guest of the fundraiser, Jon Soltz, founder of Vot Vets, was extremely persuasive and high on Diane.

Anyone looking on, contribute at her website, or her page at ActBlue.

Mayor (?) Mike is running for Sen Stevens seat and is coming to NYC in May. Alaska is ripe for change with great candidates. Please get involved.

30. Thank you, MarjorieG.
Diane has been a strong voice around here for years. I remember her passionately speaking out against the Iraq occupation at some of the earliest antiwar demonstrations here, long before Latseen was injured, and I was so happy to volunteer for her campaign in 2006 when she did so remarkably well against Young. She is so wise and so informed and yet so down-to-earth. I think almost everyone who comes in contact with her is favorably impressed.

And I think you must mean Mayor Mark Begich, who is "exploring" running for Ted's seat. :)

9. Anne Barth for West Virginia's Second Congressional District
Anne Barth is running to replace Republican Shelley Moore Capito, a Bush enabler. Ms. Capito's father, Arch Moore, is a former Republican governor of West Virginia who spent three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to five counts of corruption. He forfeited his state pension, and paid a $750,000 settlement to the state. And believe me, the apple didn't fall far from this tree!

Anne Barth spent 21 years as a senior aide to Senator Robert C. Byrd. From her website: "Working alongside Senator Byrd, Anne learned that armed with the courage of your convictions and a strong work ethic, a person can have a profound and positive influence on the lives of others."

21. They call once an hour
I'm exaggerating. They call maybe once a month. Which is still way too much. We've resisted asking them not to call, buit its hard.

They also make the reason for the call mysterious. They won't ever tell me its the Dems. They ask to speak to Sparkly. "Who's calling?" I ask. "Its a political matter" they reply. "She ain't here" I growl. "I'll try later" they respond helpfully. "Whatever .... click" I retort, discouragingly.

She does the same for me when my alma maters (almas mater?) call begging for money. Fuck 'em .... I paid the bill already.

20. Rep. Steve Kagen, freshman, physician, advocate for health care
Steve Kagen won a previously Republican district in NE Wisconsin in 2006. He was able to pay for most of his campaign with personal money but can't do that again. And the same right-winger he defeated is already gearing up to run again (yuck!). Steve's biggest issue is obviously health care reform. I've heard him speak a couple of times and have been impressed. Since we don't have a senator up this year and nobody running against the dreaded Sensenbrenner in my district, I hope to do what I can for Kagen.

He's running against the appalling Heather Wilson (R-neocon rising star) and she will undoubtedly get as low down and nasty as it gets.

We here in NM really need this good man to take over the seat Domenici (R-fossil) is retiring from.

Udall's seat in the northern part of the state is safe. My own district is up for grabs but has a good chance of going Dem now that the appalling Wilson is out.

36. Yes, a threatening phone call to Iglesias
telling him to push scandals involving Democrats so that they'd be front and center during the 2006 election. Iglesias preferred to do his job, and was one of the Federal Attorneys fired by the DOJ midterm, something unheard of in previous administrations unless there was real misconduct.

So far, the odious Wilson has managed to avoid prosecution over it. I sincerely hope that situation will be rectified as soon as we get the GOP out of the DOJ.

and if Wilson (R-odious) is the candidate, she'll put on the traditional dog and pony show about base closings. This state has a tremendous number of military retirees who don't want to lose access to the PX. It's the only thing that has kept her in office this long and it was Domenici's trick as well.
