Some times we have to blow off steam. Better to blow off such things in a burst of angry writing than to embrace them and make them part of your life, you know, like conservatives and religious nuts. :)

Those types of thoughts and reactions are considered as coming from a disturbed individual.

Yeah, if a kid writes something threatening. Sit down, have a talk.

Call the police if you think its a legitimate threat.

and examine the context. It requires using ones brain and making a judgment. This is highly preferable to either: 1) Ignoring all such things. 2) Treating all such things as conspiracy to commit murder.

11. In America, that is a transcendent word.
In Britain, somewhat less so, but here it never appeared 'on subway walls or tenement halls' here except in rare instances. As a kid, the first time I ever saw it in print was in Henry Miller's Tropic of Capricorn and boy was that a hot book for its day.

I have never used that word directed towards a female in my life, no matter how horribly she might have treated me, and to use it against your own wife in public is beyond reprehensible. It is a "high crime and misdemeanor' in a marriage, that's for certain.

Just like men getting raped in prison is so damned hilarious because men are immune to the effects of rape as well. Nope, no double standard there at all.

As an aside, I love your sig quote. We need more men like Dwayne Alazondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.
"Now I understand everyone's shit's emotional right now. But I've got a 3 point plan that's going to fix EVERYTHING!"

The OP is inappropriate. The ugliness of the post isn't forgivable just because it's a woman 'joking' about beating her husband.

A visceral reaction harmlessly reduced to a few stokes of the pen (or the keyboard, in this case...) to allow emotional steam to vent out.

That's one possibility. I'm sure if we thought about, we could come up with many more, equally harmless reasons...

Listen, joking about the subject of domestic violence is commonly known to be in bad taste. Believe it or not men actually have feelings and do not like to be dehumanized. Some people fail to empathize with people different than them, including those of different genders.

Where in the hell did I imply/say/answer with that? Or are you simply dramatizing a bit for the sake of your own rejoinder?

You asked for a reason. You received a reason void of judgment or culpability on my part.

You don't like the reason given?-- well, I'm sure you're bright enough to come up with equally valid, though less desensitizing reason on your own.

Next time you ask for a reason, try making a point to qualify the request with "and make sure it's one I deem ideologically pure" to avoid wasting time...

108. Here's where you said that:
"A visceral reaction harmlessly reduced to a few stokes of the pen" That is where you suggest that by merely writing about such things instead of doing them is 'harmless'. I think the bulk of posters here would feel very differently if the genders were reversed.

"Hey, my wife called me a small-dicked asshole yesterday. Maybe she'll apologize when she's able to speak again." Hiiiii-larious.

113. Then fiction writer's should never write of violence?
"That is where you suggest that by merely writing about such things instead of doing them is 'harmless'."

Then fiction writer's should never write of violence? No more screenplays with any hint of violence? 'Schindler's List' should never have been made, let alone aired? Visceral emotions harmlessly reduced to the stage and screen.

No more Grand Theft Vice Auto (or whateverthehell it's called) video games?

History reduced to anti-septic, non-threatening bits of squeaky-clean class room lessons?

OR...

(and I find this much more likely) we look at context as well as context.

male abuse to women. and the way they all jumped in here was amazing.

of course you arent going to knock his teeth out. you even try and you would be on your ass i am sure. i know if i tried, (and i have not hit anyone, but once at 12) if i tried knocking hubby teeth out even with good reason, i bets are off to him not protecting himself.

you know, i know they all know it was a bullshit in post....

62. It's not bullshit. I've seen men who were really hurt by women.
Maybe it's news to some people here, but all men aren't stronger than all women. If you come onto a scene as an EMT and see a man or woman who has been badly hurt by his or her spouse, it's not really that much of a chuckle.

FYI, some men are taught not to hit a woman even in self defense. So they take the abuse even if the might be stronger. They also can get hit when they have their guard down, are sleeping, etc.

I hate that type of macho--I'll kick someone's ass type language you used. I've been around it my whole life. I've seen men and women battered in domestic disputes. If you were just trying to be funny, so be it. I missed the humor in your original post.

further

i have two boys and we are doing a horrible job with our girls teaching them not to hit. they are hitting kickin pinchin and teachers do nothing, and boy cant even protect himself. huge bitch on my part.... with girls today, and parent not doing their job

If you didn't know it was hyperbole, shouldn't you have hit Alert? Or called the authorities...?

It is inexcusable, even for a right wing sexist.

Language like that would get every male in this country fired from whatever job they had. But the right wing will ignore, forget or forgive this sexist bastard and go on like nothing happened.

At the same time, there'd be no violence from me. Oh, no. I'm with the other posters who said they'd simply file.

I wouldn't stay with someone who believed that was an appropriate behavior.

IMHO, YMMV,

48. Real men don't say this to their wives
and knowing he said this to humiliate her in front of other people makes it that much more disgusting.

Obviously we all have moments when our SO pisses us off, but there's not reason to resort to hideous name calling and you certainly don't pick heated fights with him/her in front of others. At the end of the day, if you're willing to treat complete strangers with more respect than those who love you, then you have no business being in a relationship. It really is that simple.

derogatory term. He was a gentleman first and foremost; he had great respect for me and women in general. This just shows the kind of person McCain really is...to insult his wife so viciously and in front of others is Machiavellian. In addition, the provocation was minimal...wonder what he says when he is truly mad.

73. Now that I think about it,
My wife and I, in 25 years of marriage, have NEVER called each other names of any sort (epithets, that is).

Angry or no, we have always maintained a level of mutual respect that precludes name-calling.

And I have NEVER called any human being of any stripe a c**t.

102. From the Family Values party, of course!
Why on earth would a husband utter such an awful thing to his wife? Mrs. Nut and I would never level that word at each other. And using a slang term for a sexual organ to insult someone strikes me as pathetically unimaginiative...doesn't require any brainpower at all. Though it seems calling men "dicks" or "dickheads" gets a pass quite often, so what do I know...

Actually, the first time I ever heard the "C" word was in the song "Rehumanize Yourself" by The Police...

"Billy's joined the national front
He always was a little runt
He's got his hands in the air with the other c**ts
You've got to humanize yourself"

I guess the word has a different force in British parlance than it does on the Yankee side of the pond...indeed, John Cleese & Co. once anagrammed Fawlty Towers into "Flowery Twats" one episode I'm told...they must have a different take on it than we do...either that or they're just more shamelessly coarse. ;) hellifiknow...

Funny thing language....strange species, homo sapiens...someone get me a shot of Jameson's...
