There is a biography of her life and career starting now on the Food Channel.
She was an original. I always loved her show.

Right now there is a bestselling book wondering why French women are so skinny. Not to mention Anthony Bourdain and the whole celebrity chef phenomenom. She was way ahead of her time. She spoke like an aristocrat but her personality was completely down home.

Any comments about the "Galloping Gourmet"? I remember him too.

9. Her original French cooking books are |
|
still used extensively and are considered a 'bible' of sorts by cooks. Her other recipies are great too, I've adapted several at my job and they usually turn out quite well.
All and all, she had a pretty interesting life. I'll have to try to catch this show, thanks.

10. I have a 3rd hand story |
|
about her that a friend of mine was recently relating. A friend of his was in Aspen. Said friend bumped in to Julia Child coming out of McDonald's with a huge bag of food. In the quick conversation that followed she told the guy she really liked Burger King the best but that they didn't have one in town. The End. I loved the vignette. A little slice of life.

I love Julia, and MrSG does a spot-on imitation of her! (He is a fabulous cook, btw.)

from Boston and his colleagues were planning a cookout one evening years ago. When they realized none of them knew how to cook the meat, after a few beers they lost their inhibitions and decided to phone Julia Childs, whom none of them had ever met, and invite her to the cookout, with the request that she show them how to cook the meat. She came, shared a few beers with them, happily cooked the meat, and stayed for the meal and an enjoyable, fun-filled visit afterwards. Everyone found her delightful.
