More important are the political implications in Alabama. Specifically, if it can be proved that the national Republican operative engaged in an effort to medddle in state politics, using the federal government to do so, well, that kind of thing doesn't go over well and it would help to stop the Republican insurgency that has been doing so well in the state for 20 years.
