Remember the Wendy's commercial, "The Soviet Fashion Show?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWAKtYGJZSM

I've seen two dates on this one. A couple of sources date this ad as 1985, but others date it as 1987. I was wondering if anyone actually remembered the year they saw it. I only know that it had to be before the fall of the wall, but not sure when.

2. I was trying to remember the place I was living when I saw it.
I moved in 1986, so I feel like I should remember when I saw it, but I can't. :(

I remember having conversations about the commercial.

The commercials that really perplexed us then were those "Coffee Achiever" ones.... :wtf:

8. Isn't it f'ed up?

The one featuring Jane Curtin had everyone thinking that the ad campaign was a joke because of her "Weekend Update" part on Saturday Night Live. I can still remember my reaction when I first saw it and thinking :wtf: is this? Is that for real? The coffee industry was was under siege because it had been determined that it caused cancer in lab rats. It didn't stop me from drinking it, thats for sure. :hangover: To this day, I it still the whole thing was a gag.... it had to be.

10. In 1985?
Cigarette ads were really stupid weren't they?

The only decent thing Nixon did was ban them.

6. I had the opportunity to tell a young Russian about this one a few years back.
She was part of the wave of Russians who came to the US as college students after the breakup of the Soviet Union. We were discussing the various ways our countries had of propagandizing about what the people in the other country were like and what life was like for them, acknowledging that there was propaganda on both sides. I told her about this commercial (there was no YouTube at the time, and I've lost touch with her since; I'm hoping she's watched it herself since then) and it made her laugh. She said it sounded like a good approximation of what Soviet life was really like, or if not, at least a good joke on it.
