BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Fighting in the capital's Shiite militia stronghold of Sadr City stretched into its third consecutive day Tuesday, as a powerful Shiite cleric postponed a planned Wednesday demonstration in Baghdad.
Four U.S. soldiers were killed Monday as fighting continued in the capital, the U.S. military said.
One soldier died from wounds suffered when a roadside bomb stuck his vehicle in Baghdad Monday evening, the U.S. military said.
Two soldiers were killed earlier by a rocket-propelled grenade attack, the military said.
Another soldier was killed by small-arms fire after a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle during a patrol in eastern Baghdad, the military said.
The deaths bring the U.S. death toll in the Iraq war to 4,024, including eight civilian Defense Department contractors.
