Remember: They Are Liars
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Columnist

Tuesday 08 April 2008

No one is such a liar as the indignant man.

- Friedrich Nietzsche

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Condoleezza Rice, along with a slew of administration underlings and a revolving-door cavalcade of brass hats from the Pentagon, have been making claims regarding Iraq for many years now.

They claimed Iraq was in possession of 26,000 liters of anthrax, "enough to kill several million people," according to a page on the White House web site titled Disarm Saddam Hussein.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq was in possession of 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq was in possession of 500 tons, which equals 1,000,000 pounds, of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq was in possession of nearly 30,000 munitions capable of delivering these agents.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq was in possession of several mobile biological weapons labs.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq was operating an "advanced" nuclear weapons program.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq had been seeking "significant quantities" of uranium from Africa for use in this "advanced" nuclear weapons program.

They lied.

They claimed Iraq attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes "suitable for nuclear weapons."

They lied.

They claimed America needed to invade, overthrow and occupy Iraq in order to remove this menace from our world. "It would take just one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country," went the White House line, "to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known."

They lied.

"Simply stated," said Dick Cheney in August of 2002, "there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction."

Liar.

"Right now," said George W. Bush in September of 2002, "Iraq is expanding and improving facilities that were used for the production of nuclear weapons."

Liar.

"We know for a fact," said White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer in January of 2003, "that there are weapons there."

Liar.

"We know that Saddam Hussein is determined to keep his weapons of mass destruction," said Colin Powell in February of 2003, "is determined to make more."

Liar.

"We know where they are," said Donald Rumsfeld in March of 2003. "They are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad, and east, south, west and north somewhat."

Liar.

"The Iraqi people understand what this crisis is about," said Paul Wolfowitz in March of 2003. "Like the people of France in the 1940s, they view us as their hoped-for liberator."

Liar.

"No one ever said that we knew precisely where all of these agents were," said Condoleezza Rice in June of 2003, "where they were stored."

Liar.

"I have absolute confidence that there are weapons of mass destruction inside this country," said Gen. Tommy Franks in April of 2003. "Whether we will turn out, at the end of the day, to find them in one of the 2,000 or 3,000 sites we already know about or whether contact with one of these officials who we may come in contact with will tell us, 'Oh, well, there's actually another site,' and we'll find it there, I'm not sure."

Wrong.

"Before the war," said Gen. Michael Hagee in May of 2003, "there's no doubt in my mind that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, biological and chemical. I expected them to be found. I still expect them to be found."

Wrong.

"Given time," said Gen. Richard Myers in May of 2003, "given the number of prisoners now that we're interrogating, I'm confident that we're going to find weapons of mass destruction."

Wrong.

"Do I think we're going to find something? Yeah, I kind of do," said Maj. Gen. Keith Dayton in May of 2003, "because I think there's a lot of information out there."

Wrong.

Gen. David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Iraq, is about to give testimony before the Senate regarding the current state of affairs in that battle-savaged country. He is a political general, one of many America has seen and heard over the last five years, one who would leap nude from the Capitol dome before telling the real truth about matters in Iraq ... or who would speak using words fed to him by liars, and thus be wrong.

Remember: they lie. They all lie, from the top man down to the bottom. If their lips are moving, a lie is unfolding. If they say water is wet, get into the shower to make sure.

They lie.

Period.

End of file.

10. These people do worse than lie. They redefine truth, lie, black and white.
Their assault on our language and the words we use has given their lies camouflage. Their use of the law, with the help of lawyers who need to be disbarred and imprisoned, and the jargon of that profession has made the lies they tell all the more difficult to expose and prosecute.

When you add to that the Media's manipulation and degradation of language along with political interference with the fourth estate you not only get a state that can manipulate the truth through the use of the language and the law but the inability to call attention to it for the reason of airing the problems and correcting them.

How else can we explain the fact that you can so easily point out but a fraction of the lies the administration has told here in this forum, but day after day in the mass media we hear trivia? Across the country in paper after paper, on station after station we hear silence on this subject.

Why? How is this possible?

How can it be that anyone would believe anything any person would say after so many lies? When Bill Clinton told ONE lie about his sex life, there was "the credibility question" asked all over the news.

Why is the "credibility question" not being asked about this entire administration?

I submit it is because of the above two reasons I have listed. But I am willing and waiting to be enlightened as to another reason.

28. There is no "light" here. Lying especially when done
by people who have the power to affect the lives of those they purport to serve or who want to serve those people, who put them into power, is a verious serious matter. Lying about this is very dishonorable because it affects the lives of those in very basic way, who were lied to.

30. Their lies were not huge either until they got into power.
Do go over the Bush campaign of 2000. He presented himself as a compassionate conservative and someone who was able to reach across the aisle. He was going to be the education President. Remember? Those lies really turned out to be whoppers, but they seemed rather benign lies back then. Never trust a liar, no matter how inconsequential the lie may seem if they are trying to gain public office.

48. W. campaign lies were huge and the press did not out a single one.
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 05:46 PM by McCamy Taylor
He claimed he supported patient protection from HMOs in Texas---he vetoed it. If the press had outed that lie he might not have been elected president. He claimed "me too" on a host of environmental issues when his record from Texas showed that he was a foe of the environment. Again, if the press had held him accountable, he could not have done that. He claimed that he would be an isolationist president the Project For a New American Century was a matter of public record---meaning that the plans for the invasion of Iraq was already on the table--but the press did not report that, either.

Anyone who tries to draw a parallel between Hillary and Bush is resorting to the lowest kind of political tricks---

Just like Nader in 2000 when he said thet Gore equaled Bush

Everyone who does this should be ashamed.

17. we knew that there had been a call
Before the 2001 terrorist attacks, he said, "we knew that there had been a call from someplace that was known to be a safe house in Afghanistan and we knew that it came to the United States. We didn't know precisely where it went. You've got 3,000 people who went to work that day, and didn't come home, to show for that."

Mukasey did not specify the call to which he referred. He also did not explain why the government, if it knew of telephone calls from suspected foreign terrorists, hadn't sought a wiretapping warrant from a court established by Congress to authorize terrorist surveillance, or hadn't monitored all such calls without a warrant for 72 hours as allowed by law. The Justice Department did not respond to a request for more information.

19. Good point. The press ignores LIES that matter and nitpicks to find accidental mistatements that are
of no consequence. They do this to excuse the really important liars, the people like W. and Cheney who have been very good for their telecom bosses. The RNC---meaning the elite--have two favorite strategies when it comes to retaining power in this country. The first and most important is Divide and Conquer They are using that with the Democrats right now, pitting men against women, White against Black as Angela Davis describes they have done throughout US history in her book Women, Race and Class .

The second most important is They all do it This is the strategy the elite uses to excuse its crimes. If Abramoff is caught bribing half the GOP Congress, the FBI will set up a sting with one Black Democrat. That evens things up. If the entire Bush administration lies about every god damned thing they have done, the press will call a single Democratic presidential candidate a liar over her memories of a ten year old visit to Bosnia. That will even the score.

Divide and Conquer and They All Do It. Learn these two well. You will see them everywhere.

21. But they told the truth about 9/11

19 Fundamentalist hijackers, some trained by our military and some who could barely fly, somehow got onboard four aircraft without any clear video evidence, flew two planes into the WTC causing them to catch fire and fall down at near free-fall speed, which no steel structure had ever done before, and a third 47 story building to collapse in 6.5 seconds having not been hit by a plane at all, plowed one plane into a the Pentagon leaving now apparent trace of itself, although the Flight Data Recorder allegedly recovered from the site indicates it was on the wrong flight path and too high to have hit and cause the evident physical damage in and around the Pentagon, and a fourth to crash in Pennsylvania, leaving hardly a trace of itself -- all without any one of them being intercepted by our national air defense, all while Bush read stories with kids, and all because they hate us for our freedoms.

Amazing.

Simply amazing.

52. And what is even more amazing: when our troops marched past an area where 200 tons of ordinance was
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 06:45 PM by truedelphi
IN April of 2003, the platoon tried to stand guard over it - knowing that if it fell to certain elements in the Iraqi populace it could be used for IED's.

But they were given orders to march on after only 24 hours on guard. That this 200 tons of ordinance wasn't important. This makes you wonder - if there there had been laboratories of toxins or other nuclear items, would our soldiers have just marched on?

And the 200 tons of ordinance fell exactly into the wrong people's hands.

Voila the 4,000 dead and the 30,000 injured.
