Meanwhile in Iraq....(Froomkin)
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 11:57 AM by Aviation Pro
Wanna know why the Green Zone is getting shelled and like all citadels is now vulnerable? Iraqi citizens are doing the low-level, minimum wage jobs normally done by teenagers and three-job holders here in the U.S. (making the Subway sandwiches, cleaning the latrines, doing laundry, etc.). They are not housed in the Green Zone and have to walk to their jobs everyday through the layers of security that they pass through. You know what they are doing (those who've been coerced by the insurgents)? Counting the steps to get to their jobs. Then they turn over this information to the insurgents who then use it to accurately shell their targets. Those Iraqis who resist doing this are murdered.

Sholnn Freeman writes in The Washington Post: "The Green Zone was once considered an American oasis -- a protected bubble of comfort food, large, American-made sport-utility vehicles and enforced speed limits. But intensified shelling has contributed to a growing sense of insecurity on the eve of testimony before Congress by the two highest-ranking U.S. officials in Iraq: Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker."
