Bob Dylan is awarded Pulitzer Prize
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23510762-2902,00.html
BOB Dylan has made music history by becoming the first rock musician to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize. The former folk star has been recognised particularly for his poetic lyrics.

Bob Dylan has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his contribution to music.

The legendary singer-songwriter was given the Special Citation In Music honour in recognition of his "profound impact on popular music and American culture".

Prize administrator Sig Gissler said: "This award reflects the efforts of the Pulitzer board to broaden the scope of the music prize, and encompass the full range of excellence in American music. It also recognises Mr Dylan's lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."

15. Proud to be from Minnesota! Way to go, Bob!
Robert Z is from Hibbing - a family friend of mine went sledding with him in good ol' northern MN when they were pre-teens. The U of MN's Weisman Museum had a huge exhibition last year on Bob - it was amazing.

One of the many songs that does it for me is the Times They Are A-changin'. I always think about what my folks were doing when this song came out - and somehow I feel like I am walking in their shoes, four decades later. I wasn't yet alive when this came out, though I feel a certain nostalgia for it:

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'

Peace, all.

19. The only problem is...
The times changed for the worse.

Is Bob Dylan speaking out now? Is he writing songs about current events?
