View UN refugee camps thru Google
Computer users can now view images of refugee camps in Chad, Iraq and Colombia viewing details from broad topography to shots of tents.

Called Google Earth Outreach, the new program gives UN workers the ability to use Google Earth and Maps to highlight conditions of refugees and programs to help them in any area of the world.

The new online program, which was unveiled by the Internet search Giant Google and the United Nations refugee agency on Tuesday, is called Google Earth platform.

Google Earth platform allows users to move through three-dimensional satellite images of city streets and countryside which now offers a close view of UN refugee camps and aid projects.

Rebecca Moore, head of Earth Outreach for Google, said that this new program has captivated many people who otherwise would have never got the chance to see these camps and the people in crisis.

Moore spoke to a packed audience of aid experts at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Headquarters, saying they could add video interviews of refugees, photographs of displacement crises and educational text to the satellite backdrop to inform and educate even the casual users about the unfolding crises.

The UNHCR reported that 350 million people have already downloaded Google Earth.
