I've been having more frequent episodes of passing out.A holter monitor showed a 6 second pause in my heart rhythm at the same time as one of my "spells".I see a cardiologist tomorrow.I just want to know what's wrong with me.Thank God I have insurance.Times like these make me even more committed to seeing our candidates elected,so everyone can have the access I have.Thank you,friends.:grouphug:

be an odd question. Are you on anti-depressives? Years ago I had been on anti-depressives and I would have fainting spells. It happened anywhere. Getting onto a bus. Going downstairs. Just standing in my kitchen. Thank goodness I never got hurt. Once I stopped taking them, the spells stopped.

A lot of very in-shape people develop slow heart rhythms (although six seconds is a long time to go between beats, obviously). The good news is that electrophysiology has come a long way in the past ten years or so; I had my severe arrhythmia surgically corrected a few years ago and I'm good as new. There's probably a pharma or surgical fix for your heart rhythm issue; worst case might be a pacemaker, but they're much better (and smaller) now than they were even a few years ago. How's your health insurance? The bill (covered, thank God) for my 10-hour ablation was almost $100k.

Best wishes to you, of course, and fingers crossed—but I'd bet my next paycheck the news will be something like: "yes, there's a problem, but we know how to fix it." I know how anxious heart stuff can make you; feel free to PM me if you need someone to listen while you freak out.

My advice to everyone who struggles with arrhythmia is to aggressively shop for the best doc you can find. My in-laws are well-connected docs in SoCal; if you're near a major metro area they can probably point you to the best EP in your region; then it's a matter of getting a referral. If you're happy w/ your current doc, that's fine, too.

and it turned out potassium and something else was not being retained by her body

I forget exact diagnosis as it was a few years ago, but she had been having problems for years including seizures

with medication she is doing fine

50. Just a guess--you probably need your heart re-timed

they do it all the time. It's a medication they give you by IV, and you are in and out of the hospital in a day. They might even just try an oral med at first, or it might even be a false alarm.

I used to manage those procedures in a cardio unit. Unless it is something more serious, from your brief description it sounds like what you have is an entry level circulation problem that can be treated and you can still live and lift weights many years. Heart slowing down is ever so much preferable to heart speeding up as far as arrhythmias go! (take a deep sigh of relief!)

Once again, not practicing real medicine here, but I think you should be relax a little as you wait to see your cardiologist.
