Myths That Must Die: All we need is a simple majority and...
...we can pass every law we've ever wanted and impeachment will be a snap!

I'd like to kill this myth with fire, but it keeps coming back.

On the one hand, it gives the illusion that our votes count and that all we have to do is elect more democratic candidates than republican ones. On the other hand, it sets us up for failure, because Washington doesn't work that way. This formula for failure gets thrown in our faces all the time.

The GOP-controlled media screams that liberals have taken control over both houses of congress and will be able to push "their agenda" very easily! And when that doesn't happen, the GOP-controlled media paint a picture that says liberals have failed the people, are incapable of doing any real work and so on and so on.

The reality is: for some things we can get away with a simple majority. However, when it comes to overcoming a veto, we need a 2/3 majority.

Everyone knows this; we're not ignorant, we're liberals.

What I'd like to know is: what arguments have you used successfully against this persistent myth?

1. Why do the Dems pretend to be the minority?
Why did John Conyers promise to pursue Impeachment until we won the House for the Dems 2006?

They are running out of excuses.

2. Dems are in the majority...
...just not a big enough majority.

4. Conyers has the power to pursue Impeachment
He lied to us.

Nancy has the power to bring it to the House floor. She is an enabler.

In the pursuit of Impeachment, the evidence would come out and no Congressmen would have an excuse to not Impeach.
They are protecting Bush and there is no excuse for that.
