Dereaganization, or ending America's cult of personality |
|
On February 25, 1956, Nikita Khrushchev gave a speech to the Twentieth Party Congress entitled "On the Personality Cult and its Consequences." In it, he denounced Josef Stalin and all Stalin's cronies. This launched a program called Destalinization.
During destalinization, Stalin's name was erased from every place of honor. His statues and pictures were removed all over the country. And, most importantly, all of his crimes were revealed to a shocked populace--this to ensure it never happened again.
In America we've got a similar problem. The metrics are different, of course: Josef Stalin was the worst dictator the world has ever produced. Reagan was evil in his own right, though, and right now people are tripping over themselves to memorialize the bastard.
Many of Reagan's policies endure to this day, and they're all bad ones. Our next president, as part of his actions to bring America back to a position of greatness, must launch a program of dereaganization. His name must be erased from every place of honor and his crimes must be revealed--and rectified.
February 25, 2009, would be the perfect day to start.

Obama even defended Reagan (somewhat) in on of the debates. You may want it to happen, but it's a pipe dream.
