Oh barf. New Ben Stein "documentary" proves Big Science suppresses ID truth
Ben Stein, in the new film EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed

His heroic and, at times, shocking journey confronting the world’s top scientists, educators and philosophers, regarding the persecution of the many by an elite few.

Ben travels the world on his quest, and learns an awe-inspiring truth…that bewilders him, then angers him…and then spurs him to action!

Ben realizes that he has been “Expelled,” and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired – for the “crime” of merely believing that there might be evidence of “design” in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance.

http://www.expelledthemovie.com/enterflash.php

Must be that same cabal of Satanic mad scientists bent on world domination who perpetuated that global warming myth, faked the moon landing and continue to claim that not only is the Earth round, but it orbits the Sun.

4. Paul Mirecki
Paul Mirecki is Bible scholar and associate professor of religious studies at the University of Kansas and the faculty advisor for the Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics student organization. He was chairman of the department until he stepped aside on December 7, 2005.

On December 5, 2005, Mirecki reported that he was accosted and beaten by two unidentified men. He was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Mirecki has stated that the men made reference to the recent controversy over the class during the beating.

The controversy was about him making derogatory comments about adherents of intelligent design. Mirecki was to teach a class in spring 2006 on the topic Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design and Creationism.

5. They keep advertising this propaganda for the religiously insane
on the liberal radio station I listen to. 880 the Revolution is out of Asheville, NC. Though the programming includes Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Ed Shultz and many other liberals, it is owned by Clear channel. They advertise this fact-less recording by quoting Rush Limpball saying how revealing this video tape is. Like anyone who is listening to Thom Hartmann would take that drug addict's recommendation on good entertainment.

6. And This Will Be Opening Where?
Sure not at my AMC30. And Ben Stein's previous film production credits are? Anyone? Buehler?

I am curious who paid for this waste of celluloid? Or did he really spend Ben Stein's money?

I'm sure this will be a big hit in the parallel universe...packing 'em in in the church basements and college repugnican beer parties.

8. Even Fox News thinks it's a pile of shit
Stein is that whiny little guy with the monotone voice that makes him seem funny and an unlikely "character" for TV appearances. But that career may be over come April 18, when a movie he co-wrote, narrates and appears in, called "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," is released.

Directed by one Nathan Frankowski, "Expelled" is a sloppy, all-over-the-place, poorly made (and not just a little boring) "expose" of the scientific community. It’s not very exciting. But it does show that Stein, who’s carved out a career selling eye drops in commercials and amusing us on sitcoms, is either completely nuts or so avaricious that he’s abandoned all good sense to make a buck.

To wit: Stein, Frankowski and pals say in "Expelled" that perfectly good scientists and educators are being stigmatized for wanting to teach their students creationism and "intelligent design" — in other words, junk science — in addition to or instead of conventionally accepted Darwinism. You see, Stein, like some other celebrities, finally has shown his true colors and they aren’t so pretty.
...
What the producers of this film would love, love, love is a controversy. That’s because it’s being marketed by the same people who brought us "The Passion of the Christ." They’re hoping someone will latch onto an anti-Semitism theme here, since there’s a visit to a concentration camp and the raised idea — apparently typical of the intelligent design community — that somehow the theory of evolution is so evil that it caused the Holocaust. Alas, this is such a warped premise that no one’s biting.

12. "the theory of evolution is so evil that it caused the Holocaust"
Wow. There have been many attempts at genocide throughout human history. Some were successful, and a vast majority of them happened before Darwin was born. Several were carried out by God himself. I wonder if they explain that?

16. The Insane Creation Posse pays very well, as per P. T. Barnum's dictum.
One wonders why these people are so much more interested in the origin of life than trying to affect lives here and now?

There is a vocal ICP contingent who actively promote the "Darwin leads directly to the gas chamber" canard. One out of town ICP member regularly posts on our local bird cage liner's forums about this. He is usually ridiculed in North Alabama! Evidently we had rather be entertained by the latest tug boat-pleasure boat fatal collision and who had the right of way in the shipping channel on the Tennessee and the latest meth lab bust in the mountains and whether or not Barack Obama is a Muslim than mere ICP turd-schoarship and cries of persecution. Oh, whether or not one should put slaw on BBQ sandwiches is also big topic.

Go to any of those ICP sites, just use your googletubes and put in "intelligent design" and one will see that there are a great number of DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, books, and magical amulets for sale there by the vendors -- je m'ajuste -- "scholars."

21. Ben needs a lesson in irony
Perhaps he should read this:

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/03/expelled.php

EXPELLED!

Category: Creationism
Posted on: March 20, 2008 8:26 PM, by PZ Myers

There is a rich, deep kind of irony that must be shared. I'm blogging this from the Apple store in the Mall of America, because I'm too amused to want to wait until I get back to my hotel room.

I went to attend a screening of the creationist propaganda movie, Expelled, a few minutes ago. Well, I tried … but I was Expelled! It was kind of weird — I was standing in line, hadn't even gotten to the point where I had to sign in and show ID, and a policeman pulled me out of line and told me I could not go in. I asked why, of course, and he said that a producer of the film had specifically instructed him that I was not to be allowed to attend. The officer also told me that if I tried to go in, I would be arrested. I assured him that I wasn't going to cause any trouble.

I went back to my family and talked with them for a while, and then the officer came back with a theater manager, and I was told that not only wasn't I allowed in, but I had to leave the premises immediately. Like right that instant.

I complied.

I'm still laughing though. You don't know how hilarious this is. Not only is it the extreme hypocrisy of being expelled from their Expelled movie, but there's another layer of amusement. Deep, belly laugh funny. Yeah, I'd be rolling around on the floor right now, if I weren't so dang dignified.

The people he's talking about are dumb as the box the rocks came in. No, seriously- read the whole piece. It is a wet-your-pants funny true story.

23. Discussion on PZ Myers being expelled from Expelled
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c39jYgsvUOY

For anyone unfamiliar with the story:

They put PZ Myers (biology professor and blogger -- see http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/) in this movie, then kicked him out of a screening he signed up for, which anyone could have done. He's even thanked in the credits. Sadly, for them, they didn't recognize one of Mr. Myers's guests... Richard Dawkins :P.

It's an hilarious discussion, until the bit about ... oh, I guess I should put a cute little spoiler alert here, like they do on the official site. Highlight the following text, if you can stomach this shit:

Many scenes are centered around the Berlin Wall, and Ben Stein being Jewish actually visits many death camps and death showers. In fact, Nazi Germany is the thread that ties everything in the movie together. Evolution leads to atheism leads to eugenics leads to Holocaust and Nazi Germany.

That's from and article happily printed on the official site, for this trash movie. The article gives a different account of the events (read: outright lies). They try to pass it off as a private screening, but anyone who was in town was free to register...

Le sigh.

24. An interesting tidbit...
as if this movie needed an additional boost into the trash bin:

Originally filmed with the consent of the scientists depicted as a documentary called "Crossroads" about the intersection of science and religion. Subsequently, the film's title and production company all changed without the knowledge of those they interviewed. The evolutionary biologists depicted in the movie have since objected to the inter-cutting of their interviews with footage of Hitler and Nazi stormtroopers. In response, the producers have labeled these scientists "hypocrites".

29. Copyright infringement in “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”
XVIVO Scientific Animation

April 9, 2008 Logan Craft Chairman Premise Media Corporation Suite K 1850 Old Pecos Trail Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505

Re: Copyright infringement in “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”

Dear Mr. Craft:

This letter will constitute notice to you, as Chairman of Premise Media Corporation, of the copyright infringement by your corporation, and its subsidiary, Rampant Films, of material produced by XVIVO LLC, in which XVIVO holds a copyright.

It has come to our intention that Premise Media and Rampant Films has produced a film entitled “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” which is scheduled for commercial release and distribution on April 18, 2008. To our knowledge, this film includes a segment depicting biological cellular activity that was copied by computer-generated means from a video entitled “The Inner Life of a Cell.”

XVIVO holds the copyright to all the models, processes, and depictions in this video, and has not authorized Premise Media or Rampant Films to make any use of this material.

We have obtained promotional material for the “Expelled” film, presented on a DVD, which clearly shows in the “cell segment” the virtually identical depiction of material from the “Inner Life” video. Among the infringed scenes, we particularly refer to the segment of the “Expelled” film purporting to show the “walking” models of kinesic activities in cellular mechanisms. The segments depicting these models in your film are clearly based upon, and copied from, material in the “Inner Life” video.

We have been advised by counsel that this segment in your film constitutes an actionable infringement of XVIVO’s intellectual property rights, as protected by federal statutes, including Section 106 of the Copyright Act, the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990, and the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998. Each of these statutes provides for judicial enforcement of their provisions, with substantial civil penalties for their infringement.

This same letter excerpt pops up as posted by a freeper on that site-that-shall-not-be-named. They have a decidedly different view of things, of course, but they are expressing concern over the potential legal ramifications of copyright infringement. Ha!
