Actor Chuck Norris on S.J. student’s “hit list”
A high school junior faces expulsion after being charged with compiling a "hit list" at a Camden County school, authorities said.
The student, 16, was arrested yesterday and charged with making terroristic threats after a teacher discovered a list that included the names of three students and a school administrator.
Also included was on the list was tough guy Chuck Norris, said Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's office.
Pennsauken police were unsure if the Chuck Norris on the list referred to the actor Chuck Norris, an action movie star and martial arts expert.
Norris - best known for his TV role as Walker, Texas Ranger and his support of candidate Mike Huckabee - is an outspoken advocate of building discipline in the nation's high schools by teaching students karate.
Norris could not be reached for comment.
Pennsauken police found no weapons on the student or in the boy's locker, said Superintendent James Chapman in a statement. Investigators planned to search the boy's house for further evidence.
After his arrest, the boy was suspended and released to his parents.
Cheryl Link, president of the Pennsauken School Board decried the so-called hit list as the latest "embarrassment" to strike the school.
Seven Pennsauken students were arrested last month after alledgedly slashing the tires of the school district's entire bus fleet, she said. About 40 buses were vandalized.
Six additional students have been accused of pulling false fire alarms, Link said.
The board is investigating whether some of the accused students were bribed or bullied into pulling those alarms. Fifteen have been pulled since Jan. 1, she said.
"The kids will not be allowed to take control of the building," Link said. "It's getting to the point where it's an embarrassment."
