It's official: Rhodes quit AAR
This statement just in from Air America chair Charlie Kireker and president Mark Green:

Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.

Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company. We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America.

We will soon announce exciting new talent and programming that will accelerate Air America’s growth in the future.

3. No surprise. I don't think she's been happy there for awhile now.
And I don't think the management of AAR was too happy with her either. It was time for both sides to move on.

10. RR purposely set herself up permanently with ClearChannel in
Florida. Meaning, she always could come back if AA didn't work out. She said this on AR early on.

She kept her house in FL. She likes being "a big fish in a small pond."

Can still listen to her...I am in Tampa.

12. Well, she probably won't just be local.
In radio you can do your show from anywhere. Mike Malloy is in Atlanta, for example. I think the reason to live in NY was access to more guests.

9. I think they failed to reach an agreement.
I don't see cash- and ratings-strapped AAR not at least trying to work out their differences. I suspect too much stubbornness on at least one side.

We have been very frustrated the past few days in our efforts to rectify the Randi Rhodes Situation (her suspension by her network, Air America Radio). It is our understanding that today (April 9th) she is no longer an employee of Air America. So we are bringing her back."

Monday, April 14th at 4pm... it will be our pleasure to announce the return of Randi Rhodes to the Green 960 family.

Watch the video below that chronicles the timeline of the circus, and our efforts to do what's right for the vast majority of Green960 listeners that support her.

11. HEY MARK GREEN, I just quit listening to Air America for good.
Fuck you asshole. You blew it. You didn't know how important free speech was. But you know what, Randi will land on her feet and your network will go to shit because I won't be the only one no longer listening. And your "flagship" in NYC, fuck them too. You took Thom Hartman off, you fucked with Randi Rhodes, and you put that asshole Ed Schultz on along with those stupid vitamin guys instead of Lionel, so fuck you again.

Maybe someone else will take up the torch you so callously put out.

A FORMER loyal listener.

16. a little blurb from allaccess.com
"SCOTT's posting does not indicate if the NEW YORK-based RHODES (reportedly moving back to SOUTH FLORIDA) will be syndicated by another company (rumors have put JONES RADIO NETWORKS and NOVA M as likely landing places if RHODES exits AAR) or is making the return for the station alone, or may be heard on her former flagship/local home CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WJNO-A/WEST PALM BEACH as well."

I wonder when we will actually know what is happening

Probably best for both. I love Randi, and hope her new home at Green 960 leads to great things.

And as for Mark Green, well, maybe he can still make AAR a viable talent network for center-lefties, as is apparently his aim.

Big picture thing to remember here is, something like 90% of talk radio is right-wing crap. I'd like to think that there's enough room in America for both moderate and more strident left wing voices.

22. An important point to remember is how RW radio became what it is.
When Limbaugh dropped the Jeff Christie typical radio jock crap to do conservative talk, he was marketed to stations by Roger Ailes. The selling point was they'd get the programing for FREE and just pay a percentage of the advertising to Limbaugh. Like any business these days,if there's a cheap and easy way to do things they'll take it. I responded to a post yesterday that I thought AAR management was just trying to kill progressive radio from the inside. I think the Drobney's would agree with me.

20. I apologise for defending AAR for as long as I did.
But they were the first out of the gate and years ago, when they started, it was all there was.

Randi might not be my cup of tea, but she's a strong, PROFESSIONAL entertaining voice for the Left.

And she had committed listeners. AAR could have moved her to a different spot and her fans would have followed.

Yanking her off the air for a comedy routine that wasn't even on the airwaves is beyond reprehensible.

And this was organized. By a group of extremists who do NOT have the best interests of the Left at heart.

I don't think Larry Johnson or Taylor Marsh are even really Hillary Clinton supporters. They are just using the campaign for their own personal selfish gain.

24. Why is everyone saying she was fired?
It clearly states that "she has chosen to terminate her employment".

Randi gets good ratings. I'm sure they would have put her back on the air after the suspension if she was willing. It is a business after all.

28. AAR is becoming irrelevent
They don't have the balls to consider themselves as representative of the Left.

They want toplay nicey nice with the gOP and the Democratic establishment. In case they haven't noticed, America is way past nicey-nice.
