Leaders ask Marriott to drop in-room adult movies

(Tupelo, MS) - Forty-seven pro-family leaders have asked the Marriott chain of hotels to stop making porn movies available in their guest rooms.

In a letter dated April 3 to CEO John W. Marriott III, the leaders asked for a meeting with Marriott to discuss the issue. “The cosigners of this letter are leaders of some of the largest pro-family organizations in America. On behalf of these groups, a few of our principals would appreciate the opportunity to meet with representatives from Marriott to discuss this matter further.”

The group said pulling the movies would be in keeping with Marriott’s public statement of “promoting the well-being of children and families” and Marriott’s stated stance against “…such tragedies as human trafficking and the exploitation of children.” Marriott has approximately 2,800 hotels in the U.S., and about 2,400 of them have in-room porn movies.

According to Donald E. Wildmon, chairman of the American Family Association, Marriott has not responded to the request.

In addition to Wildmon, other leaders include Dr. James Dobson, chairman of Focus on the Family; Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council; Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission; Bishop Harry Jackson, chairman of High Impact Leadership Council; and Robert Peters, president of Morality in Media.

1. Why, don't they like the charges on their bills? Simple solution: don't pay to view them!
Can I start a campaign to get Marriott's to ban the Disney Channel or MTV or maybe slasher films too?

4. Makes me kinda think
the religious right may have problems saying no to porn. How in the bloody hell would kids know porn can be viewed? Can they not say no? There are some wackos on the list.

5. You are too funny! But everyone knows that Fundamentalist Baptists go cruising
for their sexual adventures!

The fundies are the biggest users of the porn on hotel tv, just like the GOP Conventions are where the hookers always hang out. (They just wish the tips were better.)

8. Hey fundies! Don't stay at the goddamn Marriott then.
Or, just don't order up porn movies on the pay per view. :grr:

Or, watch your porn at home, asshats. :grr:

9. The Marriotts are Mormon
Some of the big supposedly "about family" organizations have been founded by Mormons. Of course they don’t necessarily have control over the operations. However, I seem to remember something about profiting off the sins of others.

11. And stop letting people do 'dirty things' in the rooms, too.
Just thinking about what happens in those rooms is just too much temptation for RW religious 'leaders' to bear.

Or maybe Marriot could put porno charges for RW religious leaders in brown-paper wrappers.

;-)

15. I'm going out on a limb here
There's no way in hell Marriott is taking away the pay per view porn. It's a huge moneymaker for them.

I'd also be curious to know how many on the above list have ordered porn PPV in a Marriott property anywhere in the world.

16. I Think "All of the Above"
is a pretty safe assumption. It's Marriott's fault for tempting them of course, not their fault for pounding the ORDER button.

21. Exactly Porn is a huge money maker for hotels
The only hotel chain I know of that doesn't offer porn movies is Omni. I understand their chairman is a big fundie with some actual principles.

they sell lots of liquor too which is against their religion. In truth, the only God the Marriotts worship is the God of money.

17. What is wrong with these people?
I see this sort of thing over and over. They seem so prone to over-indulging in the vices they rail against, and demand that we all force them to behave. Sort of a "stop me before I fuck again' kind of thing, pardon the expression.

They keep demanding that society become their AA sponsor.

19. Reading the names of the signers of that letter
made me think of Mad Magazine's "Don Martin and the usual bunch of idiots". I wish those sanctimonious old farts would all go to a big island somewhere and found their own theocracy and leave the rest of us alone. It's not that I particularly like to watch pornographic movies, but then again I don't particular dislike watching them either, especially the relatively mild films that would be available at a Marriott hotel. And I am perfectly capable of making sure that my 5 year old doesn't watch something I don't think is age appropriate for her. I don't need ol' Donny-boy Wildmon or Jimmy-boy Dobson telling me that a skin flick is something my kid should not watch. But on the other hand, on the off chance that my husband and I manage to have a night to ourselves without the munchkin in a nice hotel, we might want to watch something spicy. As adults we should have the ability to watch a blue film if we choose to in our hotel room, just as they have the ability to not punch in the codes on the tv for a pornographic file and not watch one if they so choose (but why do I always get the smarmy feeling looking at some of those decency crusaders that they really enjoy watching a blue movie or looking at Playboy?).

23. Why do fundies want to ban everything they don't like?
If they a better job of bringing us all into their fold (that is their goal I believe) then no one would want alcohol or porn or prositution. We'd have salvation and faith and all that stuff. Plus when they ban it their leaders always get caught doing it anyway!

They're not very smart people are they?

24. Marriott is a Mormon who makes a ton of money selling booze..
I don't think he's going to get upset about porn as long as the money keeps rolling in.

I did see the other day where he's noticed that many of his properties may be under water in the near future so he's decided to get serious about global warming. Baby steps. Baby steps.

For every "Lions for Lambs" there are 15 "Romancing the Bones." Marriott knows the business model.
