Suck on it AAR.

And the best part? She'll be able to say whatever the fuck she wants, AND she'll be able to trash AAR management every day!

10. Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed that.
AP radio news is just slightly to the left of FAUX in their bias. Their afternoon "anchor" Ross Simpson has "accidentally" referred to our next President as "Osama" more than once, and their White House correspondent Mark "Smith" is more in love with Chimpy than even Tweety Matthews, possibly even Jeff Gannon.

Surely there must be a better radio news syndicator than this? Or maybe that will be the next step for Nova M once they have an expanded talent roster.

Shit, put me on the air, Manzo! I'll do a better job reading the news than those fools.

15. If you listen to Malloy or others on NOVA ... AP radio news is like the Opposite
Rita Foley is an editor and news reporter and did a lot to prop up the government's
position on the false stories of 9-11, won an award and lied in her reporting.

I think they are really working for the government

6. Oh FUCK yeah!!
Now it's just a matter of keeping all the affiliates on board, and I don't think that's going to be a problem.

Nova M just became THE progressive talk radio network. And Sam Seder is halfway there already.

Thom Hartmann...... time to read the writing on the wall. AAR is dead.

14. He's been carried by AAR's network feed since Franken left
and was syndicated by AAR even before that. So I don't know what the legal complications are there, exactly. I know that he broadcasts from KPOJ in Portland, which is a Clear Channel station, so that might actually help him in terms of picking up affiliates when the sinking ship of AAR finally hits the final iceberg.

Maybe Nova M will pick him up as well. In just one day, they've gone from being
just one of a few to THE PLAYER in progressive talk. Amazing ... and well-deserved,
considering the caliber of the talent they've chosen to sign on.

Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 06:07 PM by LSparkle
Nova M operates like a REAL syndicator, unlike AAR that seemed to want
all of its content coming out of NYC. Malloy does his show for Nova M
from Atlanta, Randi will be in West Palm Beach ... Jones Radio Network
has Ed Schultz from Fargo while Stephanie Miller broadcasts from L.A.

13. It's pretty fun watching all these seismic shifts happen while Sam is on the air.
In the span of about three hours Nova-M has basically taken over AAR as the #1 progressive radio network. :D

I'd love to see an AAR management cam right about now.

49. Huh, well, I like it.
I think you have a valid point, but I'm willing to deal with those quirks to hear his takes on the issues of the day.

I mean, he is a pretty brilliant guy. Certainly nothing he does comes close to Randi territory in terms of egotism or ridiculous behavior.

It's really strange, because I was hooked on Lionel the first time I heard the show, yet most DU folks don't like him. Oh well.

I do want to say also that it is great news that Nova-M is upping the ante. Two competitive progressive networks is better than one, and I can't wait to see where this all goes.

20. Randy said she was moving back to Florida even before this AAR clusterfuck happenned.
Probably the last day she was actually on the air, now that I think about it. I doubt that had anything to do with it though. There's no requirement that you have to be in a Manhattan studio to broadcast on AAR. Thom Hartmann is in Portland, and Malloy was in Georgia when he was on that network.

Nova M has the Drobnys, Manzo, Malloy, and Rhodes. (and sometimes, Seder and Maron). Who does AAR have left from their original roster?

26. Rachel is staying at AAR, who is joining forces with MSNBC and will simulcast
http://www.alternet.org/mediaculture/81912/

One significant measure of Maddow's new-found favor: the decision by MSNBC, effective next week, to hire her as a regular panelist on its newest nightly campaign program Race for the White House -- and to allow Air America to simulcast the 6 p.m. nightly program as the first hour of its own nightly Rachel Maddow show.

She seems to be on there just about every day as it is. I'd love to see her co-anchoring the convention coverage (co-anchoring the Repuke convention might even be more entertaining) and election night in November.

many of the AAR radio stations are actually independent
For instance the Chicago station plays Stephanie, Ed, Randi, Hartmann and Malloy.

Randi is sure to expand their coverage as she is a radio pro who has always had good ratings.

35. Having Randi Rhodes on board will expand their marketability exponentially
I love Mike Malloy, but realistically, night time talk radio isn't a big seller. Randi, on the other hand, is a proven ratings success in mid-day talk radio. That will make a lot of difference. Since most progressive talk stations out there already carry a mixture of AAR/Jones/Nova M programs as it is, they would have no reason to abandon a proven success just because she switched syndicators. I expect Randi will keep most, if not all, of her current affiliates.

Earlier this afternoon I sent an email to KPOJ asking that Randi's show (wherever she lands) be picked up and in the reply were the words: "We’re working on it. Stay tuned."

WOOHOO!!!

Randi lands on her feet, independent stations go right back to Randi, and as for Air America, looks like the money's gone elsewhere. That's what they get for playing the censorship game and fucking with a signed contract!
