UP YOURS, 'MURCA: "Bush: More Sacrifices Will Be Demanded Of Americans "For Some Time To Come"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/10/bush-to-tell-nation-hell_n_95997.html

AP Reports:

President Bush on Thursday ordered an indefinite halt in U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq after July, embracing the key recommendations of his top war commander. Bush said Gen. David Petraeus will "have all the time he needs" to consider when more American forces could return home.

Bush's decisions virtually guarantee a major U.S. presence in Iraq throughout his term in office in January, when a new president takes office.

The New York Times includes more excerpts from the President's speech, including his call for American's to sacrifice "for some time to come."

"It is clear that we're on the right track," the president said. That track, he said, leads to a self-sufficient and free Iraq, where those who foment violence will find themselves increasingly unwelcome, and indeed on the run from Iraqi military and security forces.

Mr. Bush said that big challenges must be surmounted before Iraq is truly free and secure, and that more sacrifices will be demanded of Americans "for some time to come." But increasingly, the president asserted, the United States military will be able to shift to a training and support role.

The Washington Post furthers the point that Bush is essentially leaving the fate of 140,000 troops in Iraq in the hands of the next President.

The bottom line seems to be that after pulling out the extra forces Bush sent last year, the United States will keep about 140,000 troops in Iraq at least through the November presidential election. In the short term, the debate in Washington instead will focus more intently on trade-offs at home, including the strain on the armed forces and the Treasury.

2. He's sacrificing the 3rd term GOD wanted him to have.
I mean, seriously...how could we ask him for a GREATER sacrifice?

284 days, 5 hours, 11 minutes, 25 seconds.

3. In World War II, Americans did lots of things to sacrifice.
As long as people can pay for food, water, shelter, electricity, and use transport smartly, we can live without 60" televisions and Lexus SUVs with 5GPM... and, yeah, I think America is worth defending.

Sorry, but I'm not going to read between lines and think of conspiracy tales, for which there is little proof.

If the Iraqi continue to kill each other in this bloody civil war, what then? :(

4. They'll be dead.
Which makes it easier to take over their resources, which is the underlying philosophy of liebensraum. Which didn't much work for the Germans, either. But it has succeeded in other places at other times.

This time, however, the intended victims are skilled and vicious fighters who don't intend to go down alone. As long as they're are breathing, we will not be allowed to enjoy their oil. We will continue to exhaust what's pathetically left of our wealth and resources while China peacefully positions itself to be the beneficiary of our efforts...coming efficiently behind us to clean up the mess with contracts and cash instead of armies.

What a clever idea this has been.

5. does anyone else hear startling reminders of VietNam?
they already brought out the "(no) light at the end of the tunnel". the surge is starting to remind me of the wind down, with carpet bombing, and all that's missing is the opportunity to hear chucklenutz say, "if nominated I will not run", (of course it's to late for that).

Now, what?:wtf:
