Too bad they didn't heed the tears of the young girls they raped
Polygamist men cry during temple search

ELDORADO, Texas - When authorities moved to search the large white temple on the polygamist compound in West Texas, about five dozen of the sect's men prayed and cried around the structure, state investigators said Thursday.

Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran also said he had been working with a confidential informant for four years who was feeding him information about life inside the polygamist sect.

Doran declined to say whether the informant was in Texas or other sect compounds in Utah or Arizona. It wasn't until after the search had begun that Doran learned about marriage beds in the temple and the forced marriages of underage girls to older men.

26. Well, I don't condone prison rape...rape is rape to my thinking
but I will say I don't much wish them anything good.

2. The bastards ought to be forced to dig their own graves.
This shit pisses me off so much.

I was raised in a fundie (Southern Baptist - washed in the blood of the goddamned Lamb) environment, but this shit just makes me ill.

6. I read this just before you asked that question
But state authorities defended their decision to leave the sect alone for the four years it had encamped in West Texas.

"We are aware that this group is capable of (sexually abusing young girls)," Doran said. "But there again, this is the United States. We are going to respect them. We're not going to violate their civil rights until we get an outcry. I've said that from day one."

From the article linked in the OP.

I'll resist the urge to comment at this time.

No, I won't. I have a question; do young girls have civil rights? Okay, 2 questions, did the older men's rights trump the younger girls' rights?

Now I think I'll go punch something.

13. Yes.
But I still had to ask. I keep hoping someone will surprise me with a different answer. Oh well, insanity - same thing over and over hoping for a different outcome, and all that.

I think reading about this "church" makes me a little insane.

20. I actually had that thought shortly after I posted.
I swear I feel like I'm traveling back in time. Oh sure, we have Ipods, DVDs, streaming video, MP3s, many homes have PCs or Macs or whatever, cell phones are ubiquitous, but I swear I saw a "witch finder" practicing his shtick for the new inquisition.

4. I hope they cry all the way to prison
I am a product of my society, I am aware of my bias and where it comes from. That said, polygamy is NOT a survival strategy necessary for our species survival at this point. Neither is cannibalism!

These whackos need to get help BEHIND BARS. They need to remain there until each and every one of their victims has been rehabilitated. This would give them a better appreciation for the damage they have perpetrated. THEN these assholes should face a second trial, one in which their rehabilitaed victims are allowed to partake in, (one which is not a media frenzy), one which determines how much longer they need to go back to jail for.

5. Child molesters are the world's biggest cowards...
...and they're also the world's biggest drama queens when they get caught.

The tears are for show. Either that or they're grieving that their supply of human objects
is drying up.

That entire community is a bunch of misogynists and pedophiles who hide behind the banner
of religion.

Let's hope that these children are safe now, and that they can begin to feel safe enough to
tell their stories and start the healing process.

I'm very encouraged by law enforcement's handling of this--and their refusal to look the other
way.

17. Exactly. Time to heal and overcome.
I agree, re: law enforcement's handling.

And those children; it's gonna hurt, but I have faith they will survive their wounds. I know, firsthand...

18. I agree..
...it will take these children a while, because most were born into this
madness. It's all they've ever known.

I just briefly saw a discussion of this on CNN. They were saying that the police
were allowing the women to call the men still in the compound and clue them in
on what was happening. That's disheartening. How can you stop the abuse cycle,
when the abusers are allowed access to these women.

Those children will never tell if they feel that there's any chance that they
will return back to those animals.

I agree it's going to hurt--but that hurt means healing, and those girls will
be lucky if they escape and are strong enough to feel that hurt.

Like you, I know firsthand too.

OMG. O.M.G.

"capable of (sexually abusing young girls)"
"we are going to respect them"

The victims seriously need to name Doran & Company in a civil suit, along with the rapists. More living proof that WE HAVEN'T COME A LONG WAY, BABY. Women are STILL second-class citizens in west Texas.

12. Religion is no excuse for abuse.
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 07:02 PM by junofeb
The rights of these minor children to live free of coercion and abuse should have been paramount over the freedom of the 'religion' practiced by their ABUSERS!

Not all religions are created equal and money, sex, and power wedded with faith is some of the scariest shit out there.

And, needless to say, completely incompatable with lessons of true spirituality as exemplified by the sage of your choice.

'What would Jeshua Ben Joseph do?', indeed.

16. Men can cry? Damn...
Who said these filthy polygamist bastards are men? Men can cry. I don't those those creatures are men, sorry.

Male guppies, rabbits, and baboons fuck everything female in sight. They are not men, they are animals. Stupid animals bought really cheap at a 2-bit pet store too. Except for baboons, they live in zoos. Mind you, all they need do is close the MN Zoo, erect a big fence around Minneapolis, and on some days I doubt anybody would notice the difference...
