So Randi Rhodes and Artie Lange are off their shows in the same couple days?

This is the biggest blow to radio since the abolishment of the fairness doctrine. I've gotten way behind on both shows, it sucks being out of the loop and finding out after everyone else.

2. He's been Howard Stern's sidekick since 2001, he replaced Jackie Martling
although his function on the show is different, he's a cohost, not a joke writer, and he might be the funniest radio personality ever.

3. Is it me, or has Artie gotten even fatter and more disheveled with time?
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Speaking of which, last night I was at the house of somebody who had Stern on-demand, and I was watching the lengthy interview with Jose Canseco and his "new" (almost 2 years) girlfriend, a much younger and very attractive woman. Fucking hilarious, and just like old times (I was something of a Stern fan back in high school, several years before he switched to satellite).

4. How can one get fatter, yet more disheveled at the same time?
And is there a special pill to take for that effect?

8. It's not you, Artie's been 300 pounds or over for several months
He's supplimented his opiate addiction (he got on Heroin for about half of 2005) with a food addiction and he's balooned up ever since his withdrawel and his starting to take subutex.

6. In Artie's case, it was a long time coming.
That fit of rage went far byond the fight between him and his assistant. The guy needs to get the drugging, drinking, eating and gambling under control, or he's doomed.

7. Artie will be back.
After listening to Howard for 15 years and never missing a show on satellite I believe he will be back. But who knows? He has been going downhill a lot lately. However, my money is on his return (if Howard will let him).

9. Yeah, he'll be back. They're all on vacation next week, and I think by then
cooler heads will have prevailed. Probably, anyway. But who knows!

10. from your fingertips to Gods ears
The show just wouldn't be the same without Art, he's what got me to be an everyday listener back in high school.

11. I seriously doubt it.

He's blown up at 4 different staffers in less than a year, made sick, homophobic remarks that jeopardized his friendship with George Takei (then refused to apologize for it), called off at least a half dozen times, and dozed off during the show repeatedly. Considering that Howard 100 didn't replay the show throughout the day, I'd say the situatiuon's pretty grave. he's done.

Don't get me wrong- I think he's a riot when he's clear and sober (his laughter over the Mike Walker Fart is one of my all-time favorite stern moments), but lately he's been a liability.

12. no replay?
that's unheard of? I worry Artie will die in Amsterdam this week. He seems poised to go on a bender of self-destruction. Poor Artie. Not excusing his behavior but he is so troubled. Maybe this will be a catalyst for healing but I doubt it. It was riveting radio though.

They did a replay from a show earlier in the week.

edit- Amsterdam is like a candy store for a guy like Artie.

13. I believe he'll be back also, but not until after a suspension
and evidence that he is in therapy and it's working.

I heard the blowup live this morning (the only way, since they didn't play back the show) and was stunned, literally speechless.

20. Here's a clip. God bless YouTube.

To sum up, he got into a row with Teddy, his assistant. Apparently Teddy was supposed to get his passport in order for the trip to Amsterdam, and didn't. It snowballed into this.

21. Not quite.
Teddy needed Artie's passport information to do an online check-in for his flight to Amsterdam. Artie had given Teddy his passport previously so he could get the information for his USO tour, it was because Teddy didn't record the info, along with a lot of unrelated things that Artie blew up.

As much as I love Artie on the show, there was no excuse for his behavior and he definitely needs to be off the show for a while to undergo some counseling before returning.

I tuned in right as Artie and Teddy started arguing. I picked a good day to stream Sirius from work. :)

24. I was driving to work, talk about a surreal commute!
I have a Sirius receiver at home and record all of the episodes just in case I want to save something that I've heard. I just pulled out the incident for my brother who was stuck at home waiting for a plumber.
