Why do we think democracy is possible in Iraq? |
|
I think the oil makes it impossible.
Democracy is where people agree that they will live by the collective decision instead of fighting...but when even WE are willing to go to war over control of oil, how can we think that they won't fight to control it.
It is no longer Shia vs Sunni vs Kurd. The main flashpoint is Shia vs Shia as in who will run Iraq.
This dynamic makes it even more impossible than the original sectarian problem I had envisioned.

3. Iraq has no historical basis in reality; it's an artificial creation by the departing British Empire |
|
Many of these people still live a tribal lifestyle. They recognize tribes more than artificial borders.
