Sadr's supporters in Najaf too expressed their anger at the killing.

"This killing will bring chaos to the country," warned Kadhim Wayid, 50, a government employee. "The assassination of any person not carrying a weapon is a major crime."

2. Being an al queada or al sadr #2 is almost as dangerous as
being the drummer in spinal tap. Every other week we get al queada's #2 guy, and now apparently, al sadr's #2 is on the menu...

6. This was his brother-in-law, not some random flunky.
And he was assassintaed.

This could make it dicey for the current cease fire.

18. This is completely different. He was assasinated and the US prolly didn't do it
This will make things MORE violent in Iraq.

24. Or Kenny in South Park...
"Oh My God, they killed Kenny!" "Bastards."

Or the Red Shirts on the Original Star Trek. "He's dead, Jim." "Jim, he's dead."

"He was deader than dead, Jim."

11. Not al Qaeda #2 -- Muqtada al-Sadr's relative ...
You're buying into the conflation of the two.

I agree with poster above that this may cause the truce to fall apart. THAT's
actually what's prevented more violence and deaths, not the "surge."

This is completely different - the number of uninformed posts in this thread shows that even DUers aren't paying attention to Iraq.

What a shame :(

20. *SIGH* I should have known better than to make a joke
Somethings are too serious to make fun of.

And yes, I do pay attention to Iraq, much as I'd rather not.

13. Just a savory tart...
I am making one with an asiago cream sauce, with hopes to eventually sell my sweet and savory tarts to local coffee joints, and hopefully open a little cafe of my own. I am currently a pantry chef at a restaurant in Sebastopol, but I just got called off, again, due to nobody being on the books. Figure I better look into other options.

Of course, that COULD be true -- just a low bar to clear, is all.

23. Here's a link to the story.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7342694.stm
A relative and key follower of radical Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr has been shot dead in the Iraqi city of Najaf.

Riyad al-Nuri, the director of the cleric's office in Najaf, was killed by unidentified gunmen near his home as he returned from Friday prayers.

Police imposed an indefinite curfew in the city following the shooting.

The Sadr movement was involved in violent clashes with government forces after PM Nouri Maliki ordered a crackdown on militias last month.

Hundreds have died in clashes, mainly in the capital Baghdad and in Basra in the south. (more)
