2. A couple of nights ago i went there and it was acting weird
I did end up on some other site and ended up restarting my computer. It did seem bizarre and wondered if they had been hacked.

Subject: RE: Somebody attacked icasualties.org
Message:
I am not sure how others are using icasualties and how the attack has affected them, but I'd like to share my reasons for having the site as one of my bookmarked tabs and a site that I visit several time each day.
My daughter has been in Iraq since mid-August. Mothers worry. When news reports of casualties start rolling in on the news readers, mothers of deployed soldiers become nearly paralyzed with fear. When I read those reports, I click over to my icasualties tab, to the table that tells me which branch of service and more importantly which part of Iraq, the casualties were in. Most days it allows me to breathe as I realize they were not where my girl is and I am able to stop and pray for those families who will be receiving that awful visit in the knowledge that this time it will not be me. Other days, when the location does not allay my fears, I still pray for those families with the realization that it could be me or someone I've grown to know since the deployment began (through blogs or our little email support group for parents in the unit). So the site has become part of my sanity keeping mechanism, part of my own "battle rhythm" if you will.
Of course I understand why there could be concerns among those trying to convince us that the war in Iraq is worth the cost when Americans can know all of the details about the casualties that are not being reported in mainstream news very quickly and easily by visiting the site. But it going down due to a malicious attack affected me (and I'm sure others in similar situations) in a way far different than what I image the attacker had in mind. It added to the stress on military families by disrupting our "battle rhythm" during this tumultuous month when the list has been growing far too quickly....and the few contacts we have with our soldiers consist of messages that say something like, "working very long days, not much time...need to eat and shower and get some rest....things are heating up here but don't worry, I'm ok." That's not a quote, it's a summary - an example of the short messages we are thankful for but that come too infrequently to assuage all of the fears when someone you love is without doubt in harm's way.

So, I do appreciate the tremendous effort it will take to get the site back to its original state, and if/when my regular tabbed site appears again - I hope that whomever did that work knows that on MOST days, he has calmed a mother's paralyzing fear for her daughter's safety.

8. In Body of War,
Tomas's mom talks about how she checks icasualties.org every day first thing. She has 2 sons who have been in Iraq.

7. icasualties
I have been wondering for DAYS what was going on with the
icasualties website. I was searching for answers when I came
across this site. I find the site invaluable in many ways.
First, my son served 2 tours in Iraq- in Habaniyah and last
one was 15 months in the Dora section of Baghdad.Thank God he
made it home on New years eve. I followed the site for news
about casualties and for the news of the war.The site
reassured me at times and put terror in my heart at others.
Now, I feel that the sacrifices made need to be acknowledged.
We Need to know their names! We need to thank them in our
hearts. I pray for each one one listed, and for their families.
I have mixed feelings about how we can get ourselves out of
this mess, but I do not think we should just hightail it out
of there. However, for those that are in power and have the
ability to put our country into another war(Iran, maybe?),I
have a few things to say. You better think again before you
EVER get us into another war again! Because of the way
fanaticals have reacted to our presence, a way of life and
civilization has been destroyed. Mothers on all sides have
lost their children- be it a soldier, a child,or someone
caught up in the violence. The world will never be the same
again, nor will those affected by it. I will never be the
same, nor any soldier, parent, friend or family member. So to
those that make the decisions to start another war Just
remember - you don't pay for it- we do.

9. Hi icasualties!
Welcome to DU. :hi:

I sympathize with you. I heard about icasualties.org a while ago but hadn't bookmarked it. My brother is in Iraq right now and I worry about him every time I hear of another American soldier being killed. We just have to keep our chins up and think positive.

I so want all the troops out but don't know the best way to do it. Hopefully, a change this fall will make a difference.

They better not start another war!!! Hopefully, there are enough sane generals/admirals to prevent that from happening. We can only hope....
