Regardless of what you think of Randi, |
|
the new owners of AAR come off looking like first class twits. According to Randi, this was over a her refusal to agree to amend her contract. If what she says is true, it is a classic contract dispute and AAR tried to shame her and play it differently from what it was. That type of business conduct creeps me out. AAR is acting like its run by republicans.

bought AAR. Sounds like a bunch of idiots running things over there. :dunce:

2. What's stupid, too, is the claim from AAR that she was suspended |
|
for saying "fucking" in a night club. No mention of "whore" and the rest of what was said. AAR has become useless. The great talkers they have can do better on their own.

3. And that her suspension was a marketing ploy |
|
to gage her true worth.
And then they wouldn't give her microphone back after they realized her worth, because they feared she'd spill the beans.
So many inaccurate assumptions were made on this board in the meantime.
Sometimes it's better to sit back and wait for the facts and truth to surface before offering an uninformed opinion.

If she's lying about her contract or the events that transpired, she'd be in a heap of trouble.
I've listened to her show for years and remember her conversation about her current contract. She couldn't stop praising her lawyer for practically pulling off the impossible, which now I logically assume to be her "ya' can't fire me" clause.

This whole thing WASN'T about the "Hillary is a Whore" episode.
But AAR lead us to believe it was.

7. A few weeks ago Randi was dissing Hillary |
|
for being one of those people who is just incapable of taking responsibility and saying she's sorry. And I remember thinking to myself, Hmmm, sounds like Randi too. Randi made a mistake. She tests the rules. I'm not saying the rules are fair, but you are in radio you still have an employer and you know where the lines are. Hell, the station that carries Air America where I live is Clear Channel. There are rules. Randi doesn't admit when she's made a mistake. I like her, but she can be selfish and nasty and she doesn't apologize.

9. Randi claims that AAR said to her: |
|
"We're not in the apology business."
So, you can either believe her or not, that's your choice.
But Randi has never lied to me, so I choose to believe her.
Regardless, she was doing stand-up. God forbid you ever see Sarah Silverman, Sandra Bernhardt, or Margaret Cho doing their routine. They use the words "bitch" and "whore" throughout their comedy, to say the least.

I don't think this is going to hurt Randi's career. She does what she wants. If she wants to call Hillary Clinton names, she will be freer to do it out of their employment.

11. She was free to do it while she was employed by AAR. |

Her contract said they couldn't fire her.
But that's not really why I responded to you.
You claim she should have apologized out of hypocrisy. But AAR said they "are not in the business of apologies". So, that kind of invalidates your original point. Even if she did want to apologize for comments made during a private, stand-up routine sponsored by an affiliate owned by Clear Channel and which Randi's expenses were paid for by a martial arts studio in Newark, NJ, AAR refused to give her microphone back to her to offer and apology, because they knew Randi would tell the truth about what really went down.

from which to apologize. She doesn't have to get it from AAR. And there are two sides to every story. Even when each "side" tells their version the rest of us may not know what really happened. I've never heard Randi admit she's wrong or that she's made a mistake, but I've heard her be a real bitch to callers. I don't imagine she was dying to offer an apology.
I don't care if she is on the air or not or if she apologizes or not- but as long as you have an employer, even if you have a contract that says they can't fire you, they can still affect your ability to work.

Yet your entire OP is based on your claim that she's a hypocrite for not apologizing.
And you also called Randi a "bitch", which is kind of surprising, given your original complaint.

Randi has her strengths and weaknesses. Radio show hosts who treat callers with respect are at the top of my list, and the ones who don't kind of wear on me. There are some things I will miss about Randi but I won't go out of my way to find a way to listen to her now that she's not on my local station.

14. Another Nail In The AAR Coffin |
|
Randi isn't the cause, but her leaving is going to force the Greens to make some very tough choices. AAR's not a big network and I doubt the network has ever turned a profit...the Greens saved it from going under last year. Radio is going through a depression right now...advertising revenues have tailed with the sour economy and radio is at the bottom of the advertising food chain. AAR didn't have the luxuary of a big corporate who could subsidize the network or a quasi-religious owner who literally robs Peter to pay Paul...Salem Broadcasting who subsidizes their hate radio operation with dollar-a-hollar preachers. AAR was a long-shot to make it this long.
It's appeared that under the Greens, AAR was only programming to the New York audience and little else. The network hasn't expanded or even has the ability to promote. The network lost its meal ticket when Franken retired and now with Randi gone, there's not much left to market.
Unfortunately Randi's situation shows how splintered and poorly funded and organized Progressive talk radio is. No matter how wonderful NovaM may be to some, they also are a very small operation that is facing very large odds. They gone to listener support to attempt to stave off the wolves. Ironically, the same people power that works on the web doesn't do so good with Progressive radio. You see people willing to flame a talk show or owner and you rarely see any of the website promote or work in coordination with either AAR or NovaM. That's a shame.
The Greens were stupid in trying to call Randi's bluff. To her credit, Randi had an alternative the Greens didn't think about and they got skunked. Too smart by half. Good luck to Randi, and here's hoping things get better with Progressive talk radio. It's tough sledding out there.

guy who bought it a couple weeks ago--mark green is still president. and the new guy was the one getting all pissy, telling randi he had "buyers remorse" over her contract that he didn't fucking bother to read before he bought the company. whatever his name is: what a fucking loser!
