Poll question: Should some US industries/resources be nationalized?
Ed Shultz was talking about a huge shale oil find in North Dakota. It seems there's talk of nationalizing it since it was found on public land.

That got me to thinking.

The Repubicans have hand orgasm after orgasm paving the way for everything to become a business in which cronies can make even more money, national interest be damned.

It started with that fuckhead, St. Ronald and has kept on going to today.

I think some industries need to become nationalized.

Oil is one of them.

What do you think?

2. If they attempt to go after shale oil...
there will be hell to pay.

Do you have any idea how damaging that is the environment?

That's not to mention it's expensive as hell to mine. Considering the price of oil these days the oil companies may decide it's worth it.

I just hope the environmental groups have it together enough to stop them from raping the planet.

Why put more power, in this case, economic power, in the hands of gov't?

6. absolutely
i don't vote in polls because don't feel like giving up my privacy yadda yadda but

yeah, obviously some industries can't make money without harming the nation as a whole and need to be nationalized, the oil industry, the airlines, insurance are three categories where i have supported nationalization for many a year

if this makes me a socialist so be it, capitalism don't work for sick or injured people

8. Prisons. Healthcare. Military Weapons.
None of these should be for-profit.

15. Take the profit out of it.
And there goes much of the motivation for fraud, and waste, and war.

14. Really?
Of course they are. They are both. Services provided by corporations, for the most part. Resources like the brain power of researchers at public universities that contributes so much to the drug companies. Lobbyists in Washington who work for the companies who build, maintain and staff many of our prisons lobby for harsher sentences, keep the drug war going, and oh so much more.

11. I'm sure the DLC'ers and lurking freeps will label me a "communist" for this.
But I believe the entire energy industry needs to be nationalized. Just look at this decade. Enron. 9-11. Iraq. Afghanistan. Horrible gas prices leading to horrible food prices, airlines going broke, and Christ knows what else.

All of it can be laid at the feet of GREEDY ASSED ENERGY CORPORATIONS who just coincidentally are friends of the Bush Crime Family.

And these same criminals are the ones preventing any REAL push to get off of this 19th century technology (petroleum burning engines) into modern, sustainable energy practices. It's EXXON who needs to go out of business, not the independent franchise gas station owner who makes the same 5 cents a gallon on $4 gas that he did when it was $1, but is now selling a lot less volume for obvious reasons. He ain't getting rich from the greed. Nor are the truck drivers paying more than most of us for their diesel.

And healthcare.... fuck Hillary's RomneyCareII, and even Obama's plan. The fact is, it works in every other fucking civilized country on earth. It will work here. The only ones who say otherwise are the fools pocketing the money from the current corruption.

Nationalizing those two industries would save this country.

20. I disagree with one on one VERY minor point ........
....... your second to last sentence: "The only ones who say otherwise are the fools pocketing the money from the current corruption."

They're not fools. They know exactly what they're doing.

22. of course
What could ever be controversial about this?

I think the average American, including a surprising number of people here, have no sense for how far toward extreme privatization we have gone, and how dangerous that is. We are watching centuries of work being dismantled.
