Stupid people tricks ... only in America.
There are people in this country who use their credit cards to pay tithes to their religious organizations.

Can you top that one?

1. Not sure what is stupid about that.
There are people who use credit cards to donate to this very website. Some of them even have monthly subscriptions.

4. Yup, well, debit card in my case
and money well spent. And I always get a personalized thank you note. Well, not personalized, but whatever, this place is still worth much more than I pay.

3. I really see nothing wrong with that
I get Delta miles from my AMEX. I use it for everything. If I tithed, I would use it.

There are so many benefits these days from use of credit cards, as long as they are paid off at the end of the month, I see no downside.

Of course, if they are not paid off monthly, then that would be a different story.

5. 10%
"Tithing" by definition means giving ten percent of your income. Using a credit card implies that you can't afford to pay for something outright, so yes, that would be stupid. But if they are doing it to get air miles or something, I can see it.

6. It does not necessarily imply that to me . . .
it could mean you wish to "spend" more cash than you have at that time. Lets say you wish to "tithe" $100 at Sunday service. Which is more likely - you would have $100 cash in your pocket or a credit card?

The LDS have an interesting approach to tithing . . . .

". . . the Mormons require (yes, it is required) that members attending a meeting with the bishop at the end of the year to state, on the record, if they have paid a full tithe. If you have not, for any reason, you will be lectured on the need to repent and come back into compliance with the law of tithing.. . . in the early days they would have people stand up in sacrament meeting and declare if they were a full tithe payer in front of everyone."

7. Same here
I use my credit card for most things -side from small purchases - in part for the airline miles, which I do use, and to help keep track of what I spend: I can download all my purchases into Quicken and see how my spending fits my budget. But I do make sure I pay off the entire balance every month.

And yes,my DU contributions are on my Visa.

10. I´m talking about "not having the money"
and that´s why they use a credit card.

I should have been clearer in my original post.

Have a nice day!

11. Top that one? Easy. Credit card with 5% cash back for first 3 months, payment to IRS with 2.9%
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 07:48 AM by RGBolen
fee charged, pay credit card balance the day after the government processes and charges it. Pay no interest and pocket 2.1% cash.

All for a few clicks on the keyboard.
