"Dr. Phil" show bonds out girl jailed for teen's beating
This is a pretty big story here in Central Florida about 8 teenage girls who held another girl hostage as they beat the crap out of her. Here's the youtube if you haven't seen it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=mkeawhiMqME&feature=related

The video doesn't show the part where they knocked the girl unconscious at the beginning of the beating. It's truly horrendous.

So get this: Doc Phil and his producers bail out one of the perpetrators and started to make arrangements for her to appear on his show. Word gets out and they change their mind about the appearance, but the girl is now bonded out because of Dr. Phil.

So I guess it's fair to say that Dr. Phil is morphing into Jerry Springer.

<snip>
Employees of the "Dr. Phil" television show posted bail for a central Florida teenager jailed for taking part in a videotaped beating of another teen, a spokeswoman for the show's host confirmed Saturday.

Staff members of the talk show helped Mercades Nichols -- one of eight teens facing charges in the case -- post bond this weekend, "Dr. Phil" McGraw's spokeswoman Terri Corigliano said in an e-mail.

"We have helped guests and potential guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show -- assisting with clothing allowance, lost wages, accommodations, travel and necessities," Corigliano wrote. "In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re the bail being paid).

"These staff members have been spoken to and our policies reiterated. In addition, we have decided not to go forward with the story as our guidelines have been compromised."

14. My favorite was when he went from "Love who you are" to "Dr. Phil's Diet Program."
I think he had one core tagline that actually was a good idea "So, how's that working for you?". It made people ask the question and think.

Beyond that, I haven't seen anything. He's a guy with one good idea who got Oprah to promote him.

13. Aw man. Say goodbye to the short career of Dr. Phil.
Too many people have seen this video to buy the idea that his show should have had ANYTHING to do with bonding out ANY of those girls.

Good Lord. The only real controversy about them is whether they should be tried as adults or not. Otherwise, that they are reprehensible creatures is a no-brainer, and anyone who had anything to do with getting one of them free on bond--especially for a reason as self-interested as getting her on the show--will be so comdemned by the show's own viewership that it's not even funny.

therapy sessions, the kind with a lot of questions that he likes to ask. Ones like, "Do you have a hole in your head?" and, "What is wrong with you?" No, wait a minute, he probably does that to himself every day already. He just needs to crawl up in a hole and never subject the public to his idiotic face again.

Oprah gave him his TV career. Occasionally Oprah has endorsed some poor choices (but Rachel Ray is pretty good). Edit: but she endorsed Barack Obama, so that makes up for it.

19. this could have been why the girls were laughing before the bond hearing reported yesterday...
the Orlando Sentinel's story focused on the girls' apparent non-repentance...that they were talking and laughing. i felt like the story was awfully prejudicial because there was no reporting on what they found mirthful. lots of people, especially immature people, respond with inappropriate laughter when cornered under stress.

but, what if they already had knowledge of the Dr. Phil offer to make a mockery of the bond system/hearing. that, to me, would explain their seemingly too-mirthful performance in front of the judge.

talk about interfering with justice. are we going to accept that Dr Phil's "brand" (TM) of justice should be implemented throughout the court system? televised punishment/counseling for profit.

"ow my balls."

to visit Britney Spears in the hospital after her breakdown (she was removed from her house by police/ambulance) and then CAME ON TV AND TALKED ABOUT HER and her condition. Any mental health professional would know that this is a big no-no and is hugely unethical. If he actually has a license, it should have been revoked.

And on edit, I am a mental health professional.

39. it's possible that there is an on-line/correspondence track to get the coursework
done, but you still have to go through the supervision process for several years before you are licensed for private practice. But it would be impossible under any discipline to not know you can't talk about clients EVER, and certainly not on TV...I mean, it's just the most basic thing you learn. Dr. Phil seemed to be clueless about this, which makes me suspect he has no credentials at all.

Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 12:41 PM by iamthebandfanman
seriously

kids today are so into themselves and materialistic.

i know for a fact that the majority of kids didnt used to be like this. i graduated from high school only 8 years ago.

i hope all these arrogant idiots go to jail, for a long time.

even some of the kids who have commented are the most idiotic dumbshit kids ive ever seen.

'thats what she gets for talkin junk'

yeah, glad to know that... ill be sure to tell that to anybody u talk crap about too.
if these kids cant take the heat and hafta resort to this stuff, what r they gonna do later in life when someone says something they dont like?

every year i get older, the more likely i am to spank my kids when i have them... i swear.
cause if i raise someone so mentally vacant who is oblivious to people they hurt around them... i wanna be shot in my head.

46. I graduated from high school 14 years ago
And I can tell you that if the kids back then had had all of the same digital toys they do now, we would have seen shit like this back then as well. I saw kids get beat up, harassed, cut with knives, and shot at during those "best years of my life," sometimes for things as trivial as wearing the wrong color or looking at someone the wrong way. All we're seeing now is more light being shined on things that have been going on for years because now every other kid has a camera on their cell phone and the internet. In my day, simply beating someone up got you fame and praise all over school. But now, kids don't have to talk about it, they can show you and everyone else on the web. It's the natural extension of a culture that worships violence and celebrates fame and popularity, where victory in battle is seen as the overriding moral force. When we have a president who is cheered as a liberator and a strong, principled man for invading another country, then our kids are going to emulate that in one form or another.

Kids today are no different than they were ten or twenty years ago. In fact, murder rates were much higher when I went to school then they are now.

i never really hadta deal with that stuff with fellow students.

only saw one or two fights at school ever...

heck, i was more likely to see horrible things at home than i was any where near a school building or with my friends. lol.

i just dont understand how young people could act the way they do about things.
i never had a 'parent' persay, my mom was a drug addict n slept all day n my dad 'worked' all day and then worked 'overtime'(which was code for having an affair). the only time they came together was to fight it out(fist wise).

i feel like i pretty much decided on my own about my morals.
maybe im wrong.

edit: or maybe i just had respect for other people.
