Is there any legal way to strip President Insane...
...of his ability to pardon felons or potential felons? If the evidence is overwhelming that crimes against humanity have been committed then I think it is the duty of Congress to prevent the criminals from seeking the refuge of a pardon.

1. No, it's in the Constitution. Impeachment would strip him of ALL powers.
And it's Unpardonable.

2. Then after the GE....
....and after a bullet proof Congress is seated on Jan 2nd, impeachment should commence. A new President and an overwhelming majority in Congress should turn the trick. Removal should occur the day before the inauguration and criminal prosecution on the day of the inauguration.

4. You really expect us to get
a 2/3rds majority?

And Bush could issue pardons, even pre-emptively, any time prior to your dreamed-of impeachment and removal.

5. The only legal way would be via
a constitutional amendment.

7. no we have no good way to legally remove an impaired president
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 10:05 AM by pitohui
it's a weakness in our constitution, that we don't have a good way to remove impaired presidents, and we have had so many, from the drunken u.s. grant to the stroke-damaged woodrow wilson to alzheimer's inflicted ronald reagan

impeachment has been tried, but apparently only for political reasons (as with clinton), i don't know the andrew johnson story and it is too far in the past to be relevant anyway, but i don't think impeaching a president for obvious and clear impairment has ever even been tried

we all know this man shouldn't be giving pardons, shouldn't have his hands on the nuclear codes, shouldn't be making decisions...but there seems to be little to be done about it other than wait it out and hope his handlers realize that out and out global thermonuclear war is bad for bidness
