What are the top 5 questions that need to be discussed this election cycle & are NOT - HELP

I am creating a finalist video for a chance to vlog the Democratic National Convention and I could REALLY use a little input from the wise minds of DU.

What do you believe are the top five issues that are currently being ignored by the main stream media? Please phrase in the form of a question.

My goal is to get to go to the convention and ask these questions to the politicians in attendance. Also, to interview delegates and the media and bring up these topics as core issues.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

:)

3. Yes, torture occurred to me. What should the question be?

Why isn't Congress demanding immediate impeachment queries? Do you know if Hillary or Barack has come out on this? This certainly is earth shaking.

Thanks for responding.

23. I disagree
It's a question; it's not a top 5. It's not a question Joe Bagodonutz cares about. We care, but the MSV (main stream voter) does not.

26. I realize that - this video is to unearth the most ignored stories by the MSM

I frankly will be fine losing this contest, if they pick some spokesmodel fluff. I want to do this to bring important questions to the convention.

If they want some schtick comedy or barbie in a career suit, so be it.

I think that story is, in fact, being covered.

I think the apparant reality that Gov. Siegelman was made a political prisoner in our own country by Karl Rove might be more of an eye opener to the average voter.

4. So, should I put up a few revelations about each question and then frame the question of why

There is such lack of response.

And, why is there such lack of response? I am kind of brainstorming as I write.

Thanks for responding.

8. Another good one -

I am finding the most difficult thing about creating this video is having to educate the public about all the things that aren't common knowledge. We still have people who believe Saddam committed 9/11 in cohoots with Bin Laden.

It is a real challenge to be succinct and cover the topic without giving a entire history lesson. This project has made me realize just how poor the media's coverage of issues has really been.

Thanks for responding.

13. I was thinking perhaps talking about how democrats expect to marry

A for profit health care system with affordable, decent coverage for all Americans? Massachusetts mandated health insurance is already starting to fall apart.

Should there ever be a question of human life being trumped by stock holders and CEO'S pocketbooks? Isn't that an inherent conflict of interest? And, how do we excise such a wealthy industry who will only face their demise kicking and screaming?

20. Excellent points. I love it. I am not aware of the details of how
MA's system is already going kaput, but I know it isn't the answer. I wanted to remain general in my reply post, because I know I really don't have the best answer to the problem. But medicine needs to be practiced by docs (not CEOs) who are not influenced by bonuses for skimping on care, or fear of lawsuits. (BTW, I did not support the legislation in Texas that capped malpractice awards.)

Medical boards need to do a better job of oversight of their medical professions. The nurses' boards are usually very tough on nursing practice.

The corporate stranglehold on the mainstream media is choking our democracy to death. Only corporate approved points of view get a decent airing in the press.

The total blackout in the mainstream media of official countenance of torture at the highest levels of our government is but the latest example.

16. Why are education standards uniform, while funding is not?
Each school district is funded with local taxes, and expected to meet national standards of achievement. If we're all created equal, why doesn't every child have the same amount of funding at his/her school? They should have thought about that before they got themselves born in the wrong neighborhood? Give me a break.

30. Maybe I should just do a video of a stream of questions?

Perhaps, I should pick a general topic and showcase the most important questions under that topic:

Iraq (& Iran):

Healthcare:

Subversion of Constitution:

Torture:

Election Fraud:

Any questions you want to throw out under these catergories would be great!

:)

34. Only five?
1) The perpetrators of the Iraq invasion lies, aggressive war, war crimes and crimes against humanity must be brought to justice.

2) 9/11 investigations were a fraud.

3) Election fraud and assuring real democracy.

4) Drug war has created a police and prison state and distorted society in every way. It must end.

5) Secret government must be abolished. No more covert policy, covert operations and black budgets, no more contractors who can keep their books away from oversight.

37. I need to make this short & sweet - it is basically an audition video

Let's face it. I could do an hour vlog special on every single question. Depending on how I present this - there may be more questions...but at least five.

It is tricky to boil it down yet cover key facts and not miss something. And, the main stream media has done their job well. Getting people to accept that they have been lied to...it is no small feat.

39. Water policy
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 06:35 PM by seasat
It's one of the most controversial topics and politicians shy away from it. Any that attempt to address it usually results in the politician being accused of wanting to steal water from one state to aid another. My question would be something like:

With climate change becoming an increasing factor and increasing urban populations especially among coastal cities, what should be done to assure that everyone has access to clean and adequate water supplies?

Ideally I'd like a policy that focuses on conservation and tertiary processing. There also needs to be a restructuring of the way the federal government deals with water related issues to make it more efficient. The future problem is that increasing fuel costs and the requirement to reduce green house gas emissions may lead to increased urban population densities. However, that will also lead to increased local demand for water and more conflict between cities and states over aquifers and river sources. In addition, climate change will lead to more droughts for some areas. We need a federal policy that can objectively mediate these disputes between areas and plan for future water crises.
