Alicia Keys: Gangsta Rap Was A Conspiracy
I don't know about this. On the one hand, rappers "do" have freedom of speech. On the other hand, that freedom (in many cases) promotes violence toward the opposite sex. However, black people have been killing one another long before the introduction of the genre.

NEW YORK — There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "`Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.

6. Why do you think she wouldn't be welcomed there?
Because she didn't bring up the Gov't plan infect African Americans with AID's, or what?

These goofy conspiracy theories are very damaging.

Study Finds Conspiracy Beliefs Among African Americans Deter Condom Use
These wacked out theories are costing lives.

STUDY BY RAND AND OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY FINDS CONSPIRACY BELIEFS AMONG AFRICAN AMERICANS DETER CONDOM USE

Significant numbers of African Americans believe in conspiracy theories about AIDS, and black men with such beliefs are less likely to use condoms as a precaution against spreading the HIV virus, according to a study issued today by the RAND Corporation and Oregon State University.
http://rand.org/news/press.05/01.25.html

The study was supported by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and appears in the Feb. 1 edition of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes. It is the most thorough examination of the types of AIDS conspiracy theories held by African Americans, and is the first to also examine the relationship of those beliefs to the use of condoms. More men than women believe in the conspiracy theories, the study found.

Researchers conducted a national telephone survey of a scientifically selected random sample of 500 African Americans ages 15-44 from around the United States. Those surveyed were asked a series of questions about whether they agreed or disagreed with specific HIV/AIDS myths. The survey of African Americans found that:

* About 59 percent agreed with the statement that “a lot of information about AIDS is being held back from the public.”
* 53 percent agreed that “there is a cure for AIDS, but it is being withheld from the poor.”
* Nearly 27 percent agreed that “AIDS was produced in a government laboratory.”
* About 16 percent agreed that AIDS was created by the government to control the black population.
* About 15 percent agreed that AIDS is a form of genocide against African Americans.

“These beliefs are widespread and demonstrate substantial mistrust of the health care system among African Americans,” said Laura Bogart, a RAND Health psychologist and lead author of the study. “For HIV prevention efforts to be successful, these beliefs need to be discussed openly, because people who do not trust the health care system may be less likely to listen to public health messages. This includes messages about HIV prevention.”

African American men who agreed with conspiracy myths were significantly less likely to report that they use condoms regularly. This was not the case among African American women.

is dangerous, and it is killing people.

because everyone is so hyper sensitive

however, your just a snot nosed little prick that takes 5 minutes out of a thousand hours of good preaching about good living and try to destroy someone because of it.

4. the media is at fault maybe as it would be with Britney Spears
when they exploit these things. but i wouldn't say it's a conspiracy as much as looking to make a profit.

but were black people killing each other before as it has happened since gangs started popping up ? of course there are issues that lead to people joining gangs. but the whole gang culture i think makes it worse.

this part is funny :

it appears most gangs were formed by various ethnic groups for protection. For themselves, and their communities.

Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 06:57 PM by madrchsod
"If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global."

maybe she should study music history and she`d find out social comment in music has been world wide since motown in the 60`s...

she should take off the ak47 because they did`t do anything to further the movement and sit down and think about what she needs to write to make a statement about america and her people..

Newton was killed as a result of black on black violence. Plus he had sunk into the depths of drug abuse.

So very sad.

31. Fair enough, then who do you suspect she thinks is behind the conspiracy?
That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

I guess it is the proverbial "they" she sees as the conspirators. We got a slight glimpse at "them" with their activity at keeping the aid away from NO with Katrina, I guess.
