leanings are EXACTLY why the IRS audited me for 2002, 2003, and 2004. And the auditor was practically apologetic after doing 2003 and only finding a trivial $500 error on my part, and then he couldn't find anything in his paperwork/internal documents to explain why they were even doing 2002. I just shrugged my shoulders and said I had no clue either. They of course came up empty on 2002.
2004 was another session with a different auditor - he spent more time giving me tips on how to arrange my bookkeeping setup and asking cat questions, lol. Found a small error, maybe $800.
They definitely wasted resources going after me. It made no sense whatsoever given the time they invested......
