FREEZE WARNING tonight in South Mississippi
Our last freeze last year was 7 April which wiped out my first crop of tomatoes. So this year I waited until 8 April to plant my tomatoes. I'll do my darndest to save my babies this year.

If I lose the little buckeroos I'll definitely replace them and I got plenty of seeds and a great Feed and Seed Store up the highway which stocks awesome plants. Nothing beats sliced homegrown tomatoes on the Fourth of July (or most likely later this year.)

2. You might be okay; it didn't freeze in Houston, but it did get
down in the mid-40s here last night. I thought it kind of cold for springtime in TX, though I refuse to complain considering how bloody hot it gets here. Bring your babies in for the night if you can. :hi:

4. Lows in the low 30's tonight on the "northshore"
and we are a tad north of the northshore. Fortunately my potted plants are a few steps from the garage and I got enough 5 gallon buckets to cover those in the ground. And I thought I was being patient this year.

5. dang!

I had to throw a sheet over my babies about three nights ago. Luckily it didn't actually get down that low, but nothing is shooshing up fast yet either with the overnights staying low

:hi:

6. Ouch! It won't be a hard freeze. (I know, that doesn't help).
Sounds like you have it covered...literally!

7. It its the frost you're worried about you can take a page from the orange grove folks
and use a fan to keep the air moving around them.

8. Good luck with the tomatoes!
Howardx and I planted ours over the weekend... interesting you'd post about a freeze... I was telling Howard that I predict freezing rain during one of the hottest days we have this summer. One day several summers ago, I was visiting a ghost town in the High Sierras, Bodie, CA, and it was hot as hell! I was up in the cemetery checking out the beautiful headstones, and I felt the sun burning my arms. No sooner did I have the thought than a huge black cloud rolled over and ice began falling! It nearly sizzled as it melted on my arms! That happening flashed in my mind as I helped plant the tomatoes, and I felt sure we were past the possibility of a freeze, so I made the prediction on the spot.

I live in So Cal, five miles from the ocean... I've lost a bunch of plants to freezing over the past few years! Not the norm around here.

9. My first duty station in the Navy
was Naval Weapons Station China Lake California near Ridgecrest in the early 70's. Incredible changes in the weather in very short periods of time. And an awesome snow storm in January 1973 IN THE DESERT. I enjoyed my three years in what I thought was another planet when I first got there.

11. It could be worse. You could have the 102 degrees and
about 5% humidity we had yesterday here in the San Fernando Valley aka Hell On Earth.

I have stuck little tomatoes in the ground in spring here at times and then have had them BAKE to death (even with shade) within a week.

12. I know, I had to cover everything I could and
bring the rest in the house.. My tomato plants are setting tomatoes. My squash, cucumbers and green beans had just came up. I'm hoping everything survives. Good luck with your garden.
