My, my. What a massive, phony, dumb-ass - and, therefore, completely unsurprising - reaction by Hillary Clinton and her buddy John McCain, not to mention the idiotic babbling from the completely worthless political chattering class, to the observation made ten days ago by Barack Obama.

At a west coast fund raiser, Obama was explaining the problems he - or any Progressive - faces in reaching small-town, working-class voters: "It’s not surprising, then, that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

That's it. That's the substance of what he said. Notice the similarity in Obama's words to what Thomas Frank reported three years ago in his book "What's The Matter With Kansas?" If you read the book then, you will find nothing but a realistic echo of Frank's sad, frustrating truth in Obama's succinct statement last week.

Ah, but, the reaction of white America's right-wing political class was instantaneous and hideously predictable. The right-wing columnist William Kristol (a clear example of the New York Times' efforts at affirmative action for neo-conservative white men) was sent scurrying to his copy of "The Marx-Engels Reader” in order to find a link between godless, bloody communism and the Senator from Illinois. And he found it straight-away: “Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of a soulless condition. It is the opium of the people.”

But, just the quote in English is not, um, threatening enough for one of America's true elites. No, Willy had to include the sentence in the original German, the language in which, Willy explains, Marx always sounds better: “Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes.”

Can you believe this shit? Meanwhile, Hillary strips away whatever pretense of civility she still tries to pretend is hers and gets right into the part of "mainstream America" she finds most comfortable: the gutter. Her statements the last few days regarding Obama's truth-telling leave nothing, absolutely nothing, behind which her defenders can further hide. Hillary Clinton is a lying, obsessed, right-wing puppet of the U.S. military-industrial capitalist class who will do anything or say anything necessary in her mad grab for power. Anything. Lie. Cheat. Steal. Align herself with the sickest part of a sick society - the religious wackos and gun-nuts and right-wing freaks who are hell-bent on the ultimate collapse of this society into a miasma of fear and hatred that is ripe for even further exploitation by the ruling class.

And what was the term for Hillary Clinton used by Nova M's newest program host not so long ago during a stand-up comedy routine? And, the problem with using those words is . . .?
