Crocs Swoons on Lowered Guidance
By Emily Flitter
Word Count: 482 | Companies Featured in This Article: Crocs, Deckers Outdoor, Novatel Wireless, Emulex, EMC, Brocade Communications, Qlogic, Affymetrix, Illumina
Crocs stock plunged Tuesday as investors responded to a reigned-in outlook for the year. The markets broadly turned lower as anxiety took hold on Wall Street over record crude-oil prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 29.23 points, or 0.2%, to 12274.86, while the Nasdaq Composite Index lowered 7.05 points, or 0.3%, to 2268.77. The S&P 500 fell 3.74, or 0.3%, to 1324.58.

Shares of Crocs, the specialty footwear maker, dropped 40% on the Nasdaq Stock Market after the company announced late Monday that it was lowering its earnings and revenue guidance for the current quarter and ...

Shockeroo. And I thought Crocs would the the standard footwear for the next 30 years or so. :sarcasm:

Nurses love Crocs. I'd advise all my colleagues who are still working to stock up on the suckers.

71. Doctors and nurses have to wear shoes.
They don't want any accidental needle sticks. Stuff gets dropped or thrown on the floor during a procedure, especially a code. You don't want to step on that without shoes on.

Since he's on his feet all day at the office and then goes back and forth to the hospital, he needs really comfy shoes. Ever since switching them them, his feet don't hurt anymore at the end of the day.

They're comfortable, too.

Note, however, that I routinely wear clogs .... some that look like backless sneakers, some that look like backless shoes.

None, however are, orange.

4. Good, maybe they'll drop the price.
What I like about them is that they fit nicely over my son's SMOs (foot/ankle braces). It's really hard to find anything to go over them, and so far it's just New Balance XW tennies... Not exactly good on a hot summer day, when his feet are already wrapped in unbreathable plastic.

Plus I want a pair to dirty up in the garden for myself, LOL.

7. What I like about them is there is no better footwear to wear around the back yard
after a long day of having your feet bound up in some kind of torture device.

Well that and that many of them are still made in the USA or Canada (sadly they've outsourced some of it to China now).

Any shoe that only weights a few ounces, has sufficient arch support and can be shoved in the bottom of a backpack for after-hiking wear is alright by me :)

Here here!!!
Do you remember wearing horribly uncomfortable clothes and shoes when you were young? You'd go to a party and be self-conscious and in pain all night.

I'm 6'1" and I actually wore platform shoes in the 70s! I bumped my head on every doorway in London when I lived there.

After that, I swore I'd never even wear small heels, and have kept to my word. Crocs might be ugly, but believe me, young people, you gotta pamper your feet. You wanna be able to walk when you're in your 80s you have to start being kind to your dogs right now!

I wore platforms too and pointy heel pumps and strappy 3 inch sandals. I now go barefoot most of the time but when I go out I slide on the crocs. I only wear loose flowing clothes. Comfort is my mantra.

82. Crocs country of origin
I have several pair of crocs - some made in Canada and some made in Colorado and I can attest to the fit being different! The Canadian made shoes fit better - just my 2 cents. BTW - I was introduced to these "shoes" by my daughters - both are nurses and like coming home from work and tossing them into the washer along with their scrubs. A quick swipe with armor all soaked cloth and they look like new.

They over expanded, making all kinds of footwear. If they stuck to their original shoe, they might be doing better.

It's the over expansion beyond what made them successful in the first place that kills these companies.

I never understood why people would pay $60+ for the ugly things, when it costs the company less than 25 cents to make a pair. You just squirt some cheap plastic through an injector, and they're done in three seconds. The knock offs you can buy for a dollar at the dollar store are just as good, and just as ugly, too.

Even though it is a horrible situation, the thought of all those little kids wearing bright red crocs struck us a funny.

48. It struck me as incredibly dangerous for the children.

We have a bunch of refugee children fleeing persecution. So let's give them bright red footwear. That should make it more difficult for the persecutors to single them out.

For a sec' I did laugh when I first saw it. But then the law of unintentional consequences reared its ugly head. While they're at it, maybe they could give them some bright yellow T-shirts sporting red bulls-eyes.

would probably be good for them, based on the climate conditions there, and they are easy to clean.

Now the whole idea of bright red, well might not be such a good idea.

I wear Dansko leather clogs. Same clog form, petrochemicals limited to the sole. Very comfy, and they last for years. Oh, and I have a BROWN pair, to be joined this fall by a black pair. My last pair lasted for 7 years of nearly daily use.

I have seen lime green Crocs, IIRC. No wonder they're in trouble. WTF are they thinking??

34. Crocs has donated millions of pairs of shoes to...
impoverished people in Africa and around the world. They may be ugly but they try to do the right thing.

39. And, they are trying to recycle them too
to make pairs for impoverished people. Cool idea.

I can't afford Crocs, but wear the knock offs all the time. Spent $80 of walking shoes and after about 2 hours of wear my feet are killing me. Knock off crocs are comfy no matter what socks I wear with them, thick or thin.

35. They are not that attractive, but amazingly comfortable.
I have plantar fasciitis and they are about the only actual shoes I can wear for any length of time.

36. I LOVE MY CROCS!!!!
I work on my feet all day, and put them on when I come home. The high-density foam feels great on the soles of my feet, and they are very light-weight, despite their bulky look.

49. You can wear them when you go into the water at stony beaches
Maybe it's just a great lakes thing, but the beaches have lots of stones and rocks. If you wear crocs, you can walk over them without cutting your feet.

51. Crocks are a godsend
when one is potty training their kids! The only thing worse than having to pre-treat soiled cloths is having to do it to their shoes as well

65. Ugliest footwear EVER!
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 04:27 PM by Lorien
A business associate and I met for a dinner meeting at one of the Epcot pavilions last week. It was spring break, so the tourists were swarming all over Disney world-and probably 30 percent or more were wearing crocs! My associate remarked on how hideous the shoes are, and she said that she had tried them once and found them to be terribly uncomfortable. We were waiting for her assistant (who had gone to her hotel room to change shoes) to arrive. The assistant strode into view, wearing a khaki and white business suit with a black blazer, and sporting hot pink crocs as footwear! Now granted, she was surrounded by similar footwear-but those people were also wearing sloppy t-shirts and shorts. Meeting business associates while wearing crocs, well...??? Needless to say, I won't be sad to see an end to the trend, though I hope that they are recycleable. Theres already enough to fill quite a few landfills out there!
