Jeb and Marco's vaunted constitutional voucher amendment collapses in defeat, April 4, 2008

Breaking news: Funding of private religious school vouchers is unconstitutional, April 4, 2008

That was then. This is now.

The Big Ugly Devious Planner is back. It just never dies.

Bush's vouchers may come back after all

By Joe Follick
April 14, 2008

With little notice or fanfare, the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission may have set the stage for the return of former Gov. Jeb Bush's Opportunity Scholarships.

In a move that took just a few seconds, the TBRC agreed Monday to reconsider a plan they narrowly defeated earlier this month that would have removed the constitutional ban on using taxpayer money to fund vouchers at private or religious schools. The panel can now vote again on the issue at its meeting next week.

When it was defeated, most TBRC members and observers figured that was the end of the effort to essentially reverse the 2003 Florida Supreme Court decision that ended the voucher plan at the center of Bush's education reforms.

TBRC member Randy Miller, a lobbyist for the Florida Retail Federation, made the motion to bring the matter back up. He voted against the voucher plan earlier this month. But he said Monday that he was concerned other programs such as the popular Bright Futures scholarships could be jeopardized without the change and wanted to vote again.

If all other TBRC members kept the same position they took when it was defeated 16-9, Miller’s switch would give the plan 17 votes and put it on the November ballot.

The arm twisting by Jeb and Rubio must be excruciating.

1. Jeb's mission is to finish his brother's legacy: Destroy the New Deal and the Constitution.
Let there be no doubt that he will run in 2012. W. has wrecked this country, with just a few agenda items unfinished: Destruction of the social safety net (Social Security, Medicare, etc.) and doing away with the Bill of Rights.

Jeb is in the wings, with powerful and well-financed friends, to finish the job.

jeb(!) is the worse of the pair...like jr. with a lot more brains and even less concern for the rights all citizens are guaranteed by the Constitution...

jeb(!)'s view: ignore it, rewrite it, run around it...hey: he's a bush...
