1. Thanks for the warning. We sent our check today, figured I had some cushion. |
|
Will get the money transferred to my acct tomorrow. Try very hard not to call attention to my existence, but as you said, it appears they're hard up for money so best to cover my tracks with greenbacks!
Happy Tax Day everybody!

common practice in the business world where your check is scanned and electronically debited from your account. Saves the government a ton of money since they don't have to ship checks all over the country.

7. Actually, checks are now considered INSTANT cash credit by the banking industry |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 08:29 PM by ShaneGR
This change occured over a year ago. It was approved into law by the congress. Previously a check wouldnt typically "clear" for 2-3 days from deposit. Now, as long as the route and account # are recorded electronically, it will attempt to clear at 12:00 PM that day and will be recorded as deposit or bounce at 12:01 AM by every bank in America who belongs to the federal banking insurance program (All of them). It's the new federal system as of early 2007.
The change took place because there were too many problems with people writing a check for items (that they could afford at the time) and then spending too much over the next 1-2 days so the check written 3 days ago bounced.

both my Federal and State refunds were in my bank account in 3 business days - so apparently they're processing refunds fairly quickly as well... I'm more impressed that the post office got your return delivered so quickly.

18. The only "float" left is the time it takes the USPS to deliver the mail. |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 01:49 AM by Buns_of_Fire
When your check hits THEIR bank (whoever that bank may be), it usually hits YOUR bank (and your account) the same evening -- thanks to ACH (Automated Clearing House) processing. The only saving grace left for those living on the edge is that deposits are usually processed before checks.
But even at that, many banks use KDS (Kiteing Detection System) software to determine if your deposits are invariably made TOO close to when the funds are withdrawn.
