Tim Robbins Tells Assoc. of Broadcasters Where to Stick the Trash They Broadcast
Listen to Tim Robbins tell broadcasters about their duty to switch from sex scandals to impeachment.

From FAIR:

We encourage you to listen to FAIR advisory board member Tim Robbins' no-holds-barred speech on broadcasting and to pass it on to your friends.

A renowned actor, director and writer, Robbins used his keynote address at the National Association of Broadcasters conference on April 14 to speak out about the "dangerous lack of diversity of opinion" that characterizes the state of broadcasting today.

The speech is available on the FAIR website:

In MP3 format: LINK.

In WAV format: LINK.

Robbins opened his speech "apologizing" to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and other right-wing broadcast pundits:

"A few years ago, they told America that because I had different opinions on the wisdom of going to war, that I was a traitor, a Saddam lover, a terrorist supporter, undermining the troops.

I was appealing at the time for the inspectors to have more time to find those Weapons of Mass Destruction. I was a naive dupe of left-wing appeasement.

And how right they were. If I had known then what I know now, if I had seen the festive and appreciative faces on the streets of Baghdad today, if I had known then what a robust economy we would be in -- the unity of our people, the wildfire of democracy that has spread across the Mideast -- I would never have said those traitorous, unfounded and irresponsible things.

I stand chastened in the face of the wisdom of the talk radio geniuses, and I apologize for standing in the way of freedom."

Lambasting the media for their failure to treat the Bush administration's lies about Iraqi WMDs with the scrutiny they had shown former President Bill Clinton's sex scandal, he calls on the nation's broadcasters to do a better job of upholding their responsibilities to the public.

I highly recommend it! It's hilarious, for anyone who is even somewhat interested in politics. It has a ton of snappy one-liners.

12. On the link, click on the small, black video camera symbol...
to the right of "Choice of Tim Robbins still has NAB-goers puzzled", then, under "Select you zone", pick "Our Blog".

11. K&R..his mockumentary on right wingers, Bob Roberts, is top notch
The trailer gives the impression of light n fluffy fare, but don't be fooled, the film takes a sharp focus on familiar tactics and pathologies of republicons/authoritarians, and is no valentine whatsoever for the ever supportive, hoodwinked American public who can be counted upon to suck up lie after lie. Watch for Gore Vidal and Jack Black.

Tim & Susan are great Patriots. America should honor them for their courage in their service to truth, to the American people and to this country. Hopefully, the next Democratic President will rightly honor them with the Medal of Freedom.

It makes a political party look bad when we have to get some actor to help our cause instead of a person with intelligence.

have intelligence. There's good politicians, too - don't throw out the baby with the bath water

28. Ugh - what exaggeration. Acknowledging the truth of Robbins' words doesn't equate worship.
As a fellow Obama supporter, I'd think you'd be more sensitive to people equating you agreeing with someone's words and message with idolization and worship.

in all cases? I think not, especially in the case of Tim and Susan. Not only smart, but fearless.

31. I don't understand why people are attacking Robbins.
I watched the whole thing, it was great. And will probably not make an iota of difference. Legislation is the only thing that can turn things around on radio. I don't know if anything can help tv. The internet is that last bastion of hope and must be protected.
